Would This be a good SHTF rifle? I really love mine and its deadly accurate. Do any of you here use it as a SHTF rifle?
Thanks
Thanks
I already have an xd 9 for the handgun, I was just asking about the rifle in general. Interesting links through thanksI think it's a poor choice, but I think pretty much a rifle of any kind is a poor choice for any reasonably realistic "SHTF" scenarios. I'm just not much into zombie apocalypse fantasies and would go with a Glock 17.
Why a handgun should be your first SHTF weapon purchase for self-defense

A handgun is used to fight your way to a long gun. Both are valuable. If defending my property during a time of civil unrest, I'll take the high capacity, semi auto rifle.
Think about the Rodney King riots, or the Ferguson riots.... shopkeepers defended their storefronts with rifles from the rooftops. During Katrina, some who decided to stay in place defended their homes with rifles from looters.
In times of civil unrest, I would have both rifle and handgun.

I don't.
I'm no commando. I know what my used and abused 41 year old body is capable of. Maybe if I didn't treat my body like a carnival ride with no thought of the future when I was younger, things would be different. Truth literally hurts. The knees aren't what they used to be. Weightlifting for maximum strength from age 17 through 34 means my elbows, shoulders, and wrists are always aching. Getting thrown around an Aikido or Jiu Jitsu mat didn't help. I'm carrying around 40 pounds around my midsection that I shouldn't be.
My painful reality is that even if I decided to rely upon any firearm in a SHTF, my current physical state would mean I wouldn't last long (even if I fought as dirty as possible). I need to fix myself first because right now, my SHTF priority is having an ample supply of my hypertension medicine and a pallet of ibuprofen.
Just throwing in a different perspective most don't consider. I'm only interested in protecting life not property, let alone the idea of sniping at looters with an AR from rooftops.
In terms of a visual deterrent or in situations where you have taken up a fixed location, the rifle is extremely viable although not vital IMO.
The ability to quickly conceal, use one handed and maneuverability when mobile makes the handgun superior if limited to one choice.
If I was to get another AR, I would honestly skip the M&P 15 sport and likely choose a Colt although I think the higher end M&P 15 models are a pretty good choice.

You know, I have something similar on my SBR stock. It's a large sticker with a skull and the words "ZOMBIE RESPONSE TEAM". I don't really want that sticker there but the SBR price was too good to pass up, even with that large white sticker on a black stock. I thought about removing it but it's on there pretty good and would just leave a lot of scratches and glue residue. As you can see its the one on the left
Please tell why... You get more features on a higher end rifle, but not features that are absolutely required... The BCG in the Sport is the same BCG as found in the rest of the M&P 15 lineup. My Sport has a 1:8 twist, just like some of the high end M&Ps, and a newer Sport has a 1:9 twist just like most of the M&P line up. Forward assist, dust cover, and heat shields in a handguard don't make a higher end rifle anymore suited for the task than the Sport.
