Is there a vertical grip that will work with the stock Sport handgaurd?

When my friend shoots his Sport, I noticed he grips the mag well. I mentioned gripping the handguard but he was more comfortable with the mag well. I was thinking of getting him a vertical grip, but I'm not sure if there's ones that will work with the standard Sport handguard. I don't know much about vertical grips, so I'm not sure. Are there any options that would work without having to change out the handguard?

So your friend is comfortable gripping the magwell, and you are taking it upon yourself to change how he likes to shoot his own rifle?
Am I reading that right?

That's not necessarily my intention. His birthday is coming up shortly, and I just thought he might like a vertical grip. He can shoot it however he wants. I don't really care. If he don't like the vertical grip he don't have to use it. The vertical grip was just a little something I was thinking of giving him for his birthday.

That'll work just fine.

And not to belabor the point, I think you're better off getting your friend some ammo or something.
Modifying a rifle is a personal thing. It's great you're getting a gift and all, but I liken it to someone buying you a beaded seat cover for your car when you have never expressed interest in such a thing.

I'll probably end up going the ammo route. That's always a safe bet. That was my first idea until this one popped into my head.

I had forgot about this thread. :o Thanks for the link. In the end I decided to get him the ammo, the rail, and the grip. I went with the Midwest Industries rail. I was just going to go the ammo route, but I got to thinking. I figured if he didn't like the grip he could just ditch it. What I didn't know, was that he had a bipod. When he saw the rail he was really happy, because he said he wasn't sure how to mount the bipod. In the end, he really liked the rail and grip. He sent me a picture awhile back of the Sport. I thought he dressed it up pretty good. :D
