Anyone upgrade the trigger on their Sport II?

Was considering swaping mine with a Giessele G2S. Anyone have one already? Experience with results and installation.

I have a Geissele SSA-E in my 1st Gen Sport and I love it.

Do you like 2-stage triggers? It happens that I do, but I have listened to some vocal people who complain about them when installed on a mil spec AR rifle. The G2S is a non-adjustable 2 stage.

If you want a 2-stage trigger, look at Rock River Match or Varmint. Hard to beat for $120.

Geissele and Timney ARE very nice triggers. What is your budget looking like?

The reason I ask is because you can get some very nice improvement on smoothness and trigger pull looking at an ALG, Rock River, and a few others at a much lower cost.

If you are looking at a specific trigger pull weight, then you might need to look at at more expensive trigger to do that.

Some factory triggers are really not that bad compared to what else is out there as OEM. S&W tends to be one of the better ones.

For a low budget 2 stage, I love my RRA National Match. It's not Geissele territory, but it's a damn nice two stage for the money. You can find them on sale for under $100, or at least you used to be able to.

A better trigger is a very positive upgrade.
I recently dropped in a CMC 3.5# trigger group in and accuracy was
much better. That trigger is single stage.
I cant imagine going back to the Sports original trigger.
I shoot almost exclusively off the bench. If the rifle was a dedicated
SD weapon I might be inclined to stay with the stock trigger but mine is a target rifle and the CMC has been a big help in achieving pretty good accuracy results.

What are you using the rifle for? IMHO that info goes a long way in helping others recommend a trigger. A 3 gun trigger is not the same as a defensive gun trigger.

Tell us how you are using the rifle and we can point you in the right direction.

I prefer single stage.

Wilson Combat TTU 4lb in my AR.
Timney 668-S 4lb in my .22 AR.

4lb is about as light as you can go and still have a trigger that is SD/duty worthy. If I lived up north and did a lot of gloved shooting I'd be using Wilson's heavier trigger. There's a lot of things to consider when selecting a trigger.

Trigger is a most important "upgrade". Take your time deciding which one best suits you and your intended type of shooting. Ammo is pretty expensive to be using a trigger that is not exactly what you want, regardless if the purchase price is a $100 +/- on way or the other between the triggers you're considering. In the AR world there's a ton of things to compromise on. Trigger ain't one of them IMO.

If you change nothing else the trigger is worth whatever you spend.
My choice was LaRue Tactical MBT. I'm completely satisfied.

Geisseles are the most proven and well regarded 2-stage triggers available, I would get the G2S you are looking at and don't bother considering any different ones.

+1 on the Wilson Combat TTU 4 lb. I think it is the best AR trigger out there. It will cost you a little more though. I don't like 2 stage triggers. For me a single stage is as good as it gets. My AR, 1911A1 and target shotguns are within a quarter pound of each other, 4 to 4.25 lbs. and break like the proverbial glass rod.

I haven't modded the trigger in my Sport, but have a G2S in another AR and really like it.

One consistent issue I've experienced with drop in trigger replacements is walking pins. I now just default to adding KNS anti-walk parts when I replace a trigger on an AR.

I've used the KNS on one lower (Colt) that was a little looser, but my Noveske billet lower was tight as a drum with my Geissele SSA. Bottom line for me is each lower is different. Some could use the KNS pins, some don't need to. My Mega on my .300blk build doesn't really "need" them, but I put them on anyway just in case.

Well I went with the G2S, was looking for some more precise feel and a nice break. This trigger was exactly what I was looking for. Also I like the fact the it's not the sensitive that I'm going to get an AD, you need to "pull" that second stage to get the nice break.

One thing I will note is the installation requires a little "tack and feel" along with strong thumbs and fingers. But I did get it. As far as the pins walking out, the trigger pin is held in by the two legs of the hammer spring and the hammer spring pin is held in by a "hook" ring. Seems like they thought that issue thru.

So far so good now to go and shoot it.

Good choice. I like the SSA & G2S triggers a lot. Lately I have been leaning towards the LaRue MBT. Just as good if not better and cost less.

Last evening I replaced the trigger spring on my M&P Sport II with one from M-CARBO. It took about 5 minutes and lightened the trigger pull considerably. Even with the lighter pull, M-CARBO swears it will still fire the harder military primers.

It's going to be hot (105 to 110 heat index) for the rest of the week so it will be a few days before I can give it a try.

Exactly what Chat' Phil says, especially about the Wilson Combat TTU trigger. You won't be disappointed.

He and some of the other wisenheimers around these parts talked me into purchasing the TTU and I'm glad that they did.
