Default Handguard?

First off, I want to thank you for all the good info and feedback regarding whether I should get a new upper for my new, old stock, now MA-banned, Sport 1. Man,....that was a mouthful. Anywho, I've decided to leave the stock upper but will probably make a minor change...the handguard.

What's do you all think is a good handguard? I don't plan on decorating my AR like Christmas tree, but will probably just put a light on it. Is Magpul the default?

Thanks!

If you don't want to remove the A2 front post and replace it with a short gas block so you can free float the rail then Magpul Moe handguards are a good choice. It is cheap and gets the job done.

If you are looking for something a bit nicer but pricey look at 2 piece Keymod or M-lok rails like these from Midwest Industries. I personally thing they are much more durable and look better.

If you are going to change the gas block and free float it you are going down a rabbit hole where there is no single right answer just a lot of subjective choices. LOL

Agreed. That M-Lok drop in is a nice rail for the money, that's the way I'd go personally. My Sport I put on a Knights Armament quad rail, but those are passe now so do the M-Lok rail. The most important thing on a drop in rail is that it locks up tight with no wobble. The MI rail will be rock solid.

Tons of choices between the $30 Magpul and the $130 Midwest Industries.

For the money though, the Midwest Industries drop-in rails are some of the lightest aluminum rails that I have seen in their price range.
