Issue with trigger on a new m&p15
Hey guys, I recently got a m&p15. I got around to shooting it today after owning about a month. When you fire the rifle and pull the trigger hard the trigger like sticks and doesn't come back forward. You pull it again it does nothing then you hear a clicking sound and the trigger goes forward then you pull it and it shoots. My dad who is a Vietnam veteran told me to not pull the trigger so hard and see what happens. Well it shoots like it should then. I still think there is a issue with the trigger not going back into place to fire. I put about 60 rounds through it and it still hangs up if you really pull the trigger hard. What can I do to fix this? I'm in a wheelchair and like guns but really don't know all there is to know about them.

Send it in and have S&W throw in a new trigger group or buy yourself a good set up..
I have found some pretty bad stock AR triggers. Gritty, grabby just plain junk.

Kinda ****** I would have to send it back. Is a trigger group difficult to install?

Changing the trigger group is easy. Push the pins out and it pops out, drop in a good set and push in the pins. Just have to get the springs seated as you go. Plenty of videos out there on the subject.
I've cleaned up some triggers before but not sure the exact cause of you guns problem. But I had one very similar, that one is gone.

Might try breaking it down looking at trigger and see if it needs cleaned, can of compressed air and some lube might make it better. I think I would try that even prior to sending it back to S&W. Mine was pretty dirty, gritty when I bought it, slide felt as it was sticky, trigger was okay but after a good cleaning it ran well.

I can only suspect if it will not reset when pulled "hard" it is either gunky
or suffering a mechanical defect of some kind.
Could be a burr, spring or fit.
Dont be afraid to call S&W. Im sure they can fix it for you and at no cost.
Good Luck
Jim

We broke it down an oiled it good. Like I said if you just pull the trigger enough to fire it's fine. It's when you pull the trigger with force it hangs up. You can push the trigger forward and you can hear it click inside. something is making it not go back into place unless you baby it.

I have purchsed several ARs and built the lowers from parts kits. Everyone of them have had an unacceptable trigger. Gritty, scratchy, and some unfixable. In my LR AR and AR10, I have installed RRA 2-stage match triggers. All the others, I have installed an ALG. They are marketed by Geissele's wife, I believe. About 70 dollars. Great general-purpose triggers for hunting, etc. You-Tube is your friend for install. As well as the instructions that come with the ALGs.
