I still want my Sport II to be "stock", but the stock handguard does not have a heat shield. I've searched and have not been able to find a replacement A2 style hardguard with a heat shield (everything is Magpul or quad rail). I want the same style as is on my Sport now, not a "beer can" handguard. I'm surprised that there aren't any on eBay from people who have upgraded thier stock handguards.

For the record, I haven't kept everything "stock". I replaced the grip with a MIAD to get rid if the finger ridge, and the stock with a MOE.

I replaced the original with a black Magpul. To my eye, it looks better, has the capability for mounting accessories, AND has a heat shield, which, surprisingly to me, is black. I though they would all be silver.

Thanks for the Brownells link.

When I had a Sport I did just what you're planning to do. I preferred the sleeker hand guard to the chunky railed versions. I found an OEM style with a heat shield at a gun show for $8.

My all time favorite M4 style carbines are the IDF carbines. Just functional, none of the extra stuff hanging off of them.

I replaced mine with a MagPul in FDE and changed the grip and stock at the same time. Took about 10-15 minutes. I have never liked the 'round' original.

Replaced the stocks and grip on my Sport with Magpul. I find the SL model to be much more comfy to shoot with.
