I'm looking to buy my first AR style gun. I want the M&P 15 sport 2. I called my local gun shops and got prices ranging from $620 to $690. are these prices the average or does anyone know where I can get a new one even cheaper? I know MSRP is around $740

Right now the $620 price is decent but if I was in the market for my first AR15 I would wait until after Christmas because I believe prices will drop. The low point on the Sport II us $499, which is where it was selling earlier in 2016.

If you like the configuration of a M4 style milspec rifle with an A2 front post I would also consider this Aero. It is a mid length gas system, has a 1/7 twist and fully tested auto BGC. For about the same price. AC-15 5.56X45MM NATO 16" MID-LENGTH RIFLE | Brownells

Dunhams Sports had a black friday deal on the M&P Sport II for $579 and I think they sold out within the first half an hour. I purchased my Sport II before the Election for $625 plus tax which was a decent deal.

The Sport II Black Friday price at Shipton's Big R stores in Billings Montana and Sheridan Wyoming was $499. They also had the M&P15-22 for $299. And the M&P Shield .45ACP for $379. To top all that, there is NO sales tax in Montana. Let's just say that I bought a couple of rifles.

SWCA #1834

I just paid $669 a few days ago. I could have ordered it for a lower cost but by the time I still had to pay tax, shipping and paperwork / BGC from a LGS it would have been almost the same price.

Average non special discount price? Yes.

Grabagun and Bud's Gun Shop are both advertising the Sport II for $630. That's as good a barometer as any.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see these prices lowered by $50-$100 in the near future due to lower demand for ARs in general.

You are off topic again. I don't know why you always have to knock the sport two you got some problem with it obviously.

He isn't knocking it... just pointing out other options that are actually better buys than the Sport 2 for the same money. I would buy that Aero over the Sport 2 as well.

You'll need a rear sight on the Aero, so add some money for that. Bottom line, they are about the same price, the Aero a bit cheaper. So it comes down to which gun you like better and if you want mid length gas and/or a 1:7 twist.

When comparing price, take notice of things like, does it come with a rear sight, magazine etc. The Aero at Brownells does not. Also figure in shipping and FFL fees. If you really need to save money, wait till after X-mass. I bought mine a year ago and had I waited a month or so, I'd have saved at least $50. Also, S&W's customer service is a big selling point. If you are looking for a basic rifle, the Sport II is hard to beat.

The Aero doesn't come with the rear sight or a magazine, but those can be added. Add shipping and FFL fee and he is still at the same money that he is at locally.

Rifle: $574.99
Brownell's FFL fee: $ 10.00
PMag Gen 3: $ 14.20 (from Brownells)
MBUS Gen 2 rear: $ 55.05 (from Brownells)
Shipping: $ 0.00 (free shipping)
FFL fee on my end: $ 25.00

Total: $679.24

Rifle with better specs with same magazine and rear sight added in the same price range as he has locally...

I've always had good experiences with Smith and Wesson. The S&W MP15S2 is the only AR I have by SW. I've used their products for over 40 years albeit mainly revolvers and 1 shotgun. I like them but I understand they are not the only game in town. Buy what you like and use it and be happy .... yes, be happy :D

I agree and you can do better on those prices. You can get Pmags for under $10 and MBUS rears can be found for as low as $35.

Gentlemen,

At the risk of pointing out the obvious... this is the S&W M&P15 section. A guy should be able to ask the going price of a Sport II without having his thread taken over about outfitting an Aero rifle. Enough. Not pointing fingers... I'm guilty too.

Now that doesn't mean any mention of other brands is forbidden here, but it does mean that we have another section of this forum dedicated to discussion of other brands http://smith-wessonforum.com/firearms-knives-other-brands/ use it. Let's keep this section more focused on the M&P, operation, related products and accessories for it.
