Default Bought my son his first Ar last night for Christmas

Picked him up a Ruger Ar 5.56 Nato M4 Flat top. Found a good deal at Sportsman outdoor superstore $578.00 out the door free shipping and no tax plus free FFL service at a LGS. They also had a Whyndham for $499.00 out the door but I was not sure of the 40% carbon fiber lower that came with that model. They are both entry level and something he can get started with. I know he really likes shooting mine so I thought what the heck.... This will be another thing him and I can do together.

Good deal there - nice of the LGS to handle the paperwork for free.
Never was a fan of AR's but I decided to build one from a stripped lower I had stored away in case the election had a different outcome. Ordered an A2 kit from PSA and Leapers carry handle from Optics Planet. Fired a few NATO rounds from it to test function and it works. Accuracy will never rival a bolt gun but all I intend to do with it is plink and shoot steel at 200 and 300 yds.
Shooting the old milsurps like the Mosin or Garand while satisfying isn't that much fun because of the physical punishment they deal out. The AR though is a something I could shoot all day without having a sore shoulder the next.

Nice.

Hey guys, we discuss a broad range of topics in this section that are related to ARs, and it's not uncommon to discuss different brands for comparatives to the S&W lineup, but to start a thread just about another brand we should put those here -- http://smith-wessonforum.com/firearm...-other-brands/
