Default New MP15 Owner

Picked one of the MP15 Sport II's up yesterday. My first SW AR and the lowest cost one I've bought but for the money it looks to be a decent entry level model. Probably not changing anything out on it at this point. Just a stock ready model to be used around the property .... TD

No reason to think of it as an 'entry level'. There is nothing inferior about it. It's a great carbine that should serve you well.

I agree with you and I wasn't inferring any negative connotation ... I only meant entry from a price standpoint. It, by all accounts, is a fine lower cost AR. I'm looking forward to shooting it regularly... Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving up there in Michigan ... TD

Congratulations on the new M&P 15. I'm assuming by entry level pricing you mean the Sport II? I have had a Sport for about a year and a half now, and while I haven't shot it much, I sure do like it. Actually I have a Sport II also that I haven't even shot yet

Yes ... Sport II. I should have been more precise, g... Get out and shoot those guns I've got a several other Smith's but no AR until this one. I think it will be a great carry and shoot rifle. I've shot many coyotes and such with my others but I'm ready to try this one out too... Thanks, TD

Congrats on the new rifle! IMO it is a fine choice, especially for the money, I actually bought a Sport II after modding the **** out of my Sport I to do an "OEM+" style rifle, all I changed was the handguard to one that looks the same but has a heat shield, I installed an H2 buffer, and switched the MBUS for an A2 carry handle (purely for a classic look, nothing wrong with the MBUS imo).

Question

I was looking around on the interweb today and went to my favorite online gun store, GRABAGUN. They were selling Sport II's for $635 and AR-556's for $569.
I don't understand GAG's AR pricing. It seems their prices are all over the place. I bet if you go look on their site next week, Sport II's will be like $550 and AR-556's will be $607.

Its a budget gun with a very basic feature set. It does not mean it is not a decent gun but it is what it is. It is a entry level rifle in every sense of the word. I mean look at the what comes on it.

Basic GI type grip.
Basic GI type stock
Basic GI type trigger.
A2 front post.
1/9 twist which is on the gun as a cost savings vs the 1/8 twist that the Sport Is shipped with.
Non-tested Bolt Carrier group with a semi-auto profile.

The list goes on and on. None of these things make the Sport II a bad rifle. It is a pretty good rifle for its entry level price point but again it is what it is. Nothing more nothing less. I wish people would be more honest about why the gun has the feature set it does. It is built the way it is with the parts it comes with because it has to hit a price point and still be profitable.

To the OP enjoy your rifle.

Grab a gun uses an Amazon/Bud's guns type pricing model on their site. The number of searches, page views and sales will cause the price to change up or down.

I never ordered from GrabaGun but their prices are not too bad. I'd rather buy local but they, along with others, have good pricing. For me I have to add in tax and then whatever the dealer charges for the BGC and stuff. Depending, online may not always have the absolute best price when you add it all up.

As far as the MP15 Sport II, its gotten mostly good reviews and I wholeheartedly agree that it is a good lower cost AR. I'll be using it and I'm glad I picked one up. It's not a Daniel Defense M4A1 but it's not meant to be. It's one that I'll use and not worry too much about ...

Thumbs up

I'm done on this one... only added MOE buttstock, grip and handguard. Only thing left at this point is a 2 point sling. I like the MOE ... not too expensive and it feels good at least to me... Going to the range this weekend weather permitting. I've got some hogs and coyotes to take care off so I'll be looking forward to that ...
