Sports I
I bought a Sport I back in 2013. Just curious what the collectability and price is on this since they were discontinued.

There are people who like the M&P Sport I but I don't think that model has any upside as a collectible. An entry level AR-15 isn't something I would pay much extra for as I would prefer the S&W Sport II over the original anyway.

I agree with fyimo. It was a budget rifle, made for the masses. No real collectible value. Even if it is never fired, NIB, you would not be able to sell it for any more than the Sport II is currently going for due to the lack of forward assist and dust cover. The market has spoken and they want those on the rifle.
Now maybe in 500 years it will be worth something, who knows... but you won't see any real rise in value in your lifetime.
Just wanted to add... as far as price, I bet if you sold it today, you would take a loss from what you bought it at in 2013.

There's a thread here with links advertising $499 and $525 for new Sport II.
I think the official count is 17 trillion ARs in America in every possible configuration multiplied by a billion.
Not sure there there will be much of a collectors market for the Sport I or II or III or... in our lifetimes. As far as current value on your rifle... under $500.

When the gun grabbers start acting up again I expect my Sport 1 and Sport 2 to quadruple in value...

One thing I think would make a Sport 1 desirable, actually 2 things, is the 1in 8 5R barrel offered on the earlier Sport 1`s.
The other,IMHO is the all steel A2 rear sight adjustable for windage & elevation that was replaced for the windage only flip up sight.

I would lose a lot if I sold it today. Got caught up in the gun craze! I paid $860 out the door back in April of 2013. I like it. The wife still doesn't know I have it. Keep it at my dad's next to his AK, and M-1 carbine.

That ain't so bad. Cabela's sells em all day long for $699. After tax ain't but a $100 difference in what you paid. Heck, a case of M855 is $350. Aimpoint $600. Decent trigger $200. Extra mags... sling... No sense losing sleep over paying a couple bucks more for the rifle.
As far as the wife issue... now that's something to lose sleep over!

About 5 yrs ago I got a base DPMS AR10. We went to the outdoor range and got my wife set up shooting her AR15. I went to the next bench and got out the AR10. It's black, she didn't notice any difference from my AR15. Then I shot it for the first time. Whoaaaa. She looks at me and says 'what the f is that?' I explained and she goes back to shooting hers. There were other people there so I figured she was cool in public but the ride home might be hell. She never said a word. A couple of months later we were watching a movie about a deadly disease spreading real quickly and the country going to hell just as quickly. After the scene where the house behind the main character's is broken into and turned into a shooting gallery, she says, 'You know how I sometimes rag you about buying guns? Forget that, buy all the guns and ammo you want.'

That assumes you can find a buyer that has more money than brains. Even during the original assault weapon ban of 1995, I never knew of anyone paying that much more than MSRP. The worst I have heard of in a long time is a member of these forums paying 1k over list for a Colt post Newtown and that was less than double MSRP.
