Looking into buying an MOE mid 811053. Can anyone tell me what the barrel profile is?
Thanks
Chris

I believe it would qualify as a thin profile. Not quite a pencil profile.
I wonder how much longer this version will be available because the new MOE SL is no longer 4150 cmv and there is no mention of rifling or twist on the Smith website. Nicer furniture but cheaper barrel?

Where are you finding this info, because as jkasch pointed out, the Magpul MOE SL does not list a twist rate, and it shows it is 4140 so it is a different barrel than what is on the MOE Mid.
Google isn't turning up anything other than S&W website, which is very short on specs.

I could have sworn that I saw it floating around on either smith's website or another retailer's that had it, but now can't find anything.. Ugh.. Anyways, I'm pretty darn confident that it'll be 1:8 5r.

I guess it does make sense that it could have the same barrel as the new 15T with MLok... that one is 4140, mid-length gas, and 1:8 twist with 5R.

I found a couple online sellers calling it 1:8 5R, also.

I like how Smith and Wesson put in home protection and hunting under purpose in the moe mid.. My moe mid box says LE on it perks of being in public safety!

It's a lightweight profile. Heavier than pencil but not as heavy as govt. Awesome carbine. My nephew and I both have them, neither has ever had an issue. Get it, you won't ever regret.

Does anyone know the barrel diameter at the gas block? I'm planning on removing the A2 sight and going free float.

Should be the standard .750 diameter, but why would you buy this particular rifle to do that, when S&W sells a rifle that is already free floated?

Thanks for the info. I decided after shooting the rifle for some time now and I would like the longer handguard since I have longer arms. I also got an exceptional deal on this particular rifle. The rifles does Smith & Wesson as already fitted with free-floating rails do not have the same 4150 barrel.

Ok, so you are not buying it to free float... you already own it. You are right about the barrel not being 4150, but they do have 1:8 twist with 5r rifling. Not the exact same, but close enough for most users. I wouldn't recommend buying the Magpul edition to free float just because the 15T doesn't have a 4150 barrel.
