WHAT did I just Buy? M&P 15 SPORT II 5.56MM 16" BARREL WITH MAGPUL MOE M-LOK

The Bandit here for Post #2. I know this is somewhat of a rhetorical question, but I want to understand what I just bought and WHY it may be slightly Better than the Standard M&P Sport II, and what ELSE I need to purchase in order to use this MAGPUL MOE M-LOK?

OK, so I purchased this Version of the Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II below.

SMITH & WESSON M&P 15 SPORT II 5.56MM 16" BARREL WITH MAGPUL MOE M-LOK 10305

Apparently they swapped the standard piece under the barrel with a MAGPUL MOE M-LOK.

MOE® M-LOK® HAND GUARD, CARBINE-LENGTH – AR15/M4

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Magpul MOE M-LOK Hand Guard (Magpul Original Equipment) for AR15/M4 firearms with carbine-length gas systems combines the light weight of a standard hand guard with modular flexibility.

Designed with versatility in mind, M-LOK slots at the two, six, and ten o'clock positions allow the attachment of optional 1913 Picatinny rail sections and other M-LOK accessories for the direct mounting of tactical lights, slings, grips, etc. Reinforced, heat-resistant polymer construction provides operational durability without the weight and expense of an aluminum rail hand guard. Front extensions and lower lip provides additional operator protection from hot front sight assembly.

FEATURES

-Replaces standard M4 Carbine-type plastic hand guards
Compatible with most piston-driven as well as 'direct impingement' gas systems

-Easy to install utilizing existing delta ring and round or triangular front hand guard retaining cap

-M-LOK slots at the two, six, and ten o'clock positions for mounting MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails or other direct-attach M-LOK accessories

-Reinforced, heat-resistant polymer construction

-Integral riveted aluminum heat shield

-Front lip and side extensions, shields hand from hot gas block

-Relieved area at the top rear accommodates many overhanging optic mount

OK, so I am GLAD I got this extra part STANDARD and it still only $499 Delivered! So this allows me to ADD Picatinny rails to this piece? So the standard one doesn't have the ability to accept Picatinny rails?

What would I clip on to this MOE M-LOK? Weapons Light? What other M-LOK accesories would I want to add?

If it accepts these Picatinny rails (which I now know is what everything mounts to), do I need to buy any of these now? What ones do I buy? Or, do I ONLY need to worry about this if I am actually going to attach something to thispart of the gun?

Here is a Picture of the Gun with this Package. She sure is Prrrrrrrrty

They ALSO made another configeration of the M&P Sport II, which was Optics ready? I guess that just means it already has a Picatinny rails on the gun so you can attach a scope or some other optic?

I basically answered some of my own question, and I KNEW this was a better package to buy, vs. the stock one, but just wasn't sure excatly how much better it was, and why I wanted it?

You would only use picatinny rail if you already had accessories that attach by picatinny rail... if you are buying new, then you should look to buy M-Lok accessories.

It is better than the standard version because it has heat shields... and it appears that you got it for the same price.

As far as accessories, don't worry about accessories for awhile... shoot the gun before you hang a bunch of stuff off of it.

Like cyphertext said, you just got a rifle with a little nicer handguard than the standard Sport. Shoot it to get familiar with it and to make sure it's reliable. Enjoy!
