Default Wood AR15 furniture

I like my MP15 but don’t like the cold rattly plastic. I’m thinking wood furniture would improve the feel. Anyone done it? Worth the money? Or is it just bling?

Just doesn't look right to me.

However, if properly accessorized, it might be alright.

I depends on personal preference, I suppose. It's been done and there are stocks and hand guards out there to do it.

Boyds gunstocks offers them. Complete set will start out around $170+. Depends on what wood laminate you choose.

That Turnbull looks nice to me, but not what I'm looking for.

I'm not a fan of the Boyd's buttstock design, but that's just aesthetics.

I like this one with a triangular hand guard that mates with my round D-ring. AR15 Wood Stock Sets

I see the website and like the wood furniture. Those who paid the (reasonable) prices probably like them but it will be personal preference. Let us know how they look on your AR.

Not very good light, but I have two with wood. Both are from Blackgunswood.com and both are really nice. The folks (I think his name is Gene) at the place are awesome to work with. Top is a .308, bottom is a .223 Wylde Chamber mid length gas. If you get one for a .308, contact Gene as the bigger .308 rifles have different barrel nuts so the front hand guard will need to be adjusted for that. Personally, I think the Boyd wood stocks aren't as good looking.

I felt the same way with all of my ARs.

Wood furniture does exist. It is expensive. In my opinion it does improve the feel of the rifle. It certainly improves the appearance. It does not enhance barrel cooling; if anything it insulates the hot barrel.

I found it to be a tremendous aesthetic improvement and if all I was concerned about had been appearance, I would have converted all of my ARs. As it is, I did not find the wood furniture to be an overall functional improvement and so would not spend the money again.

I have an Indignant Arms cocobolo/black anodized grip on my 6.5 Grendel AR. Absolutely love it. Will probably end up putting them on my others as well. They are a bit pricey though, and take quite a while to get since they are handmade.

Ironwood Designs has AR15 wood furniture. Various grades/woods to choose from.

You'll have to finish them yourself but at least that way you get the stain / final coating you want.

They may have them, but you can't buy them. At least not from their website.
