Problem scoping my M&P mid-length MOE AR.
I have tried a couple of scopes on my AR, which I should mention has the factory front sight post on the gas block. I currently have a Leupold Mark AR 3-9 x 40mm. Off the rifle, the sight picture is very clear. On the rifle, I find it difficult to get a clear view in the center, although the bottom corners and top half still look clear. The higher the power, the worse it gets.
I am reaching the conclusion that the front sight post is the problem. You cannot see the post clearly, but it occupies the center portion of the bottom half field of view.
So I am thinking I should switch out the gas block to one without a front sight post. Maybe one with a picatinny rail section on top so a front sight could later be added.
My questions: 1. Can you recommend a good gas block unit for me to use?
2. How difficult is this job? Special tools needed?
3. Do you agree that the sight post is a problem?
Thanks!

What mount and rings are you using? Are you setting the scope at the proper height for an AR?
The front sight should ghost out at 4x and above and not cause an issue at all.

First of great choice with the Leupold Mark AR 3-9 x 40mm! Love that scope and it is perfect for the AR platform.
As Cyphertext mentioned the front sight should not be an issue. Proper mount height and eye relief should be where you focus.

Typically the fsb / fsp will "ghost" nearing 3x and totally disappear at 4x and higher in my experiences. With no blurriness, etc.

Can you post a pic of how it is set up on the rifle with the stock extended to the position you use it from?
If you are trying to shoot nose to charging handle and have the scope really far forward, perhaps that is causing the issue.

Well I found out that a large part of my problem was that I had attached the sling to the A2 front sight post.z It was a convenient location but it blurred the view through the scope. After repositioning the sling, I took it to the range and tried it again. It is much better, but the center of view is still unclear as compared to the top and edges. The post does disappear, mostly; but you still get distortion. This is a nice scope and I want it to perform like one. So I am going to have the A2 sight block removed and replaced with a block that has a small picatinny rail.
Matter of preference, I guess. Thanks to all for your help.

Keep in mind there are 2 heights of the gb w/ rail. One is flush with the rcvr rail and the other is lower which will dictate what "height" of front sight you need to install. Or you can go with a low-profile gb and install a free float handguard with a rail on top which is level with the rcvr rail.

The front sight post is not the problem.
Your ocular focus likely needs proper adjusting, or the scope itself has a dirty objective or is defective.
A railed gas block is a preference, not a necessity.
The fixed, taper pinned front sight post is the most secure gas block type in current use. Anything using set screws as an aftermarket block is a liability in comparison.

yhm or pri folding front sight blocks or shave your fsb and free float the rifle. or shoot as is. I run a 2.5x prism the fsb is blurred in the center but I havent had an issue with ringing steel. I dont use it as a precision rifle though.
