MP Sport 2 OR/Crimson Trace Model

Hello All. I haven't owned an AR in 30yrs, it was a Colt SP1, which I foolishly traded away for something stupid. Decided I need one now, and was recommended from an avid AR owner/shooter, the MP Sport 2 Optic ready model, with Crimson Trace Red/Green Dot. Have it ordered, was wondering if the barrel is chrome lined from the Factory like my old Colt was? Also, anyone with this exact model, how do you like it? It was sold to me as one of the better valued AR's available. My wife LOVES her MP 15-22, so I have high hopes for this rifle. Thanks.

Probably not chrome lined. S&W and others have went to a melonite? type treatment. It is supposed to be as good if not better than chrome lining

I saw on the SW site it was listed as below but not sure what the lining is. I own a sport 2 I bought last year (love it) but darn if I know those particular specs.

Sport 2 rifles are not chrome lined. The barrel has Armornite treating inside and outside. This is their name for a nitriding treatment. Tons of debate about chrome lining vs nitriding. Both are good. I have the same rifle but with a round hand guard. I bought it as a range toy to limit the round count on my Daniel Defense DDM4V7 Pro. The M&P 15 turns out to be very close to the DD in accuracy and finish and equal in reliability so far. I think the Sport 2 is an excellent value.

The only way I would take chrome over nitride is if I was going to be dragging it through the jungles of Laos or Cambodia for a few months.

Next Question

You guys with Sport2 OR rifles/railed gas block, what iron sights are you using? I know I have to buy steel for the gas block heat. Don't want to spend a ton on a set, they're strictly for back up, as rifle comes with Crimson Trace Red/Green Dot. Thanks for any suggestions.
