I think there is more to this story. It just doesn't sound like we are getting ALL of the facts.
No, my opinion doesn't matter, so I will keep quiet.

I got tired of reading after page 8 and just decided the gun's owner didn't know enough about what actually happened to offer much of an opinion. Obviously he is mad and expects S&W to replace the rifle regardless of what actually happened. It sure doesn't give me any reason to think S&W's customer service is "poor."

I agree don't think we are getting all the facts. I would certainly have pics of that.
What would happen if you cleaned your AR type and forgot to install the cam pin? And everyting lined up would it go into battery and fire?

Beal:
I reject this and this post should be immediately removed or restated.
The link to a report on another forum by some anonymous guy claiming his M&P15 "blew up" is obviously written by someone not very knowledgable. I do not believe the story at the link proves anything about S&W Customer Service other than that they investigated and claim it was the ammo.
If that is true, how is that poor customer service? S&W is not in business to guarantee the owner of its products is protected from every wrong committed by those outside of S&W, over whom S&W has no control.
I am offended that this is described by you as "poor customer service" on the part of S&W.
If you put bad ammo in your gun and it is damaged, that is not the fault of the gun maker. If that happened, the ammo company should be notified. Bad or reloaded ammo is not S&W's problem, and why you should think this is evidence of poor customer service at S&W is just not clear to me.
If you think S&W should be the gurantor of every conceivable intervening problem that can damage a rifle, then I suggest you get a job in the same department of the government that thinks the gun companies should be responsible for reimbursing money spent by the government through medicaid and other government programs for all gun injuries (i.e. the so-called junk lawsuits recently outlawed by the Lawful Protection of Commerce Act, or whatever it is called).

I read all 11 pages. While the destruction of the rifle in question may in fact have been related to out of spec ammunition (which seems to be what S&W is claiming), they could have certainly been more helpful and forthcoming with the guy who had the problem rifle.

I definitely call BS. I have had nothing but quick, decisive and expert attention from S&W when needed throughtout my LE career and now as a retiree. We are definitely not getting the entire story, just enough to make S&W seem to be the bad guys.

S&W said ammo out of spec that the gun is fine. it is obviously the ammo mfgrs fault or.... he put someone's reloaded ammo in and it was too hot. would be interesting to see if ammo mfgr were to obtain the blown case and find out the residual podwer was not something they use. regardless this guy should just get hold of ammo people.
sheesh

An odd first post...a bashing thread. While I admit not everyone has positive experiences all the time, I've never walked into someones house I've never met and just started complaining.
But that's just me.

I had a problem last year with a brand new AR-15 from S&W. They not only fixed the problem within 2 weeks, but also paid for shipping.
Just my experience w/S&W.

I am sorry to keep harping on this, but I do not see it as a "problem rifle." S&W says it is an ammo problem, and given my four decades of experience with their customer service and my personal knowledge of several of the nice people who work there, I am going to give S&W the benefit of the doubt here. Thus, until proven otherwise, I do not see it as a problem rifle, but a "problem owner," who will not just go to the ammo company in question.

So do I.
That's why this thread is on "timeout" until we see more from our new member.
