Default Where forward or rear to mount reddot?

I got a new SIG Romeo 5XDR.

I am new to AR. platform.

I have a Pretty stock S&W sport 2 and want to co-witness mount. But I wonder if I should mount it near the rear of the std pic rail or way forward towards the barrel front end of the rail or somewhere in between?

I do NOT have any magnifier optic. Just the 1X Romeo 5. optic.

I am right handed and right shoulder but left eye dominant!

No I will not try to u train 50 years and try to learn to shoot left handed. Old dog and new tricks!

Thanks in advance for responses!

Mount it as far forward on the receiver as you can.

I think it depends on your mount. Never saw a Sig dot, so I'm not sure of their mounting bracket.

I mounted mine forward enough to be able to flip up the rear sight.

No magic bullet.

1. Off-set optic mounted forward

or (preferred)

2. Train the right eye

Both eyes open yet to need to put a cheap eye patch over left eye. do not close left eye better than 50/50 chance under 500 rounds you will be right-eye dominant. Regardless, it's always a good thing with a dot to learn how to shoot 2-eyed.

That's the coolest thing about dots. Always both eyes open. It's kinda weird how they work, I have 2 that has clear rear lens covers, and black front covers.

I can shoot both with the black front cover closed just fine.

Thanks guys.

I may be an anomaly. I have my contacts for corrective lenses set up so that my left eye is biased towards seeing up close or reading. My right eye is for distance. This allows me at 57 years old to almost never have to use reading glasses. But also has “trained” my brain to automatically see well whether close or far. But if I close my right (distant) eye my distant vision is not horrible but it is blurry. It I can read a magazine or book just fine. Alternatively. If I close my left eye I am unable to read at normal book distance but can see clearly to read a road sign while driving for example.

But with both contacts in. I can drive and see clearly (dominate right eye) and if I have to look at a map or something I can read it (left eye dominate). And switch pretty much automatically and instinctively.

As I ate this combination May or May not work.

But I think right now being right handed and right eye distant dominate should work out just fine.

I mounted the red dot and while I have not brought it to the range yet. It seems like it is working just fine.

Thanks again.

One more question.

I mounted the optic and just tightened the Allen or torx set screw the 1/4 turn after snug left the directions.

Should I have used some blue lock-tight? Or is manual tightness on the set screw secure and reliable over time and abuse and repeated recoil etc?
