Not only do the Cali folks have to deal with being legally limited to 10-rd mags, they also have to deal with that idiotic bullet button.

First post here, I found this forum searching for pics of M&P-15s and couldnt resist joining to post a few of my own to go alongside some of the amazing rifles Ive seen.
The day I got it: Note no MBUS for me
First few mods:
And currently:
M&P-15 sport, Sight-mark reflex sight, UTG Quadrail, Mil spec foregrip, random *** flashlight, sling mount end plate and Winchester Single point sling. Also have my Taurus PT1911, and my Mossberg 500 Persuader, 8 shot pump.

Thank you sir! Im not sure what I want to do for mods next. Im not a fan of MOE, in fact I like the stock AR parts as far as stock and grips go. Im looking into back up sights, and I would like to get an EOtech sight but we all know how expensive those are...

Your daughter looks about the same age as mine was the first time she shot anything bigger than a 22. I was sighting in my new Win 270 with 2-4 X scope for deer season. She asked to shoot it and I told her it kicked a bit but she still wanted to shoot it. Showed her how to use the scope and turned her loose. I was shooting 1/2 dollar size 3 shot groups at 100 yrds. She shot 1/4 size 3 shot groups. We both went home with BIG smiles that day. She kept that target on her bedroom wall for years. She still out shoots me to this day and she is now 42. She also out shoots her Army E7 husband!!!!!

I'm stuck in a ban state, so I had a pinned fake collapsible pinned all the way out. I hated it, so replaced it with A1 stock and put carry handle on for tgat classic look.

Magpul furniture has to be the most reasonably priced I've seen on the market.

For an AR to be compliant in Kalifornia it has to have its collapsible stock pinned all the way extended.

MA doesn't allow collapsible stocks, bayo lugs or flash suppressors. We can mount a brake, but it needs to be permanently pinned in place. We can also use Pre-1994 large cap mags.
The m&p ships with a blank barrel end (no threading) no bayo lug and a 10 round mag in addition to a fake collapsing stock. the carbine buffer tube isn't even a standard tube. It's rifle lenght, but drilled internally to accept a carbine buffer and spring. The stock screws directly to the buffer. You cannot move it in because the buffer would stick out. If I were to put a collapsible stock on, the buffer tube needs to be changed.
To change the stock to an A1 stock, I had to purchase the stock, a rifle buffer tube, spring and rifle buffer. I also bought an Otis cleaning kit that fits in the buttstock.
In person, the proportions look great, and it feels great too. I had the magpul flip up sight on mine, but love the detachable carry handle look.
The rifle feels perfect to me.

That is incorrect it has to have a certain barrel length, a non detachable magazine... I am not sure where you got your information from...

My bad, I misread it the first time. Pinned and fixed muzzle break. Heres the whole list. I didnt know the Colt AR-15 itself is banned if not registered before 2000....

Your in Ohio and your completely wrong I don't normally call people out but your giving out wrong information! You can have a unpinmed stock I have one and they come standard on AR sold in California.

It's understandable that a fellow S&W M&P 15 owner from California is a bit agitated. They have to live with that horrid bullet button & mags limited to 10rds. That's the price they pay for having decent year round weather.
All good-natured ribbing aside, the firearms laws in California are sure odd. I thought I had it bad here in NW Illinois, close enough for City of Chicago anti-gun sentiment to leak into the suburbs.

They also have rediculous laws when it comes to modifying a vehicle for high performance!
Of they ever create golf laws, I'm screwed as all three of my major hobbies would be regulated heavily
But the weather is awesome there

You know you are allowed to get a regular collapsible stock and pin it yourself in the position you like. I'm in NYS and that's what I plan on doing.

I know, but seems like a waste. Kinda would feel like I am ruining the stock.
I actually do like the A1 stock. Feels nice and I keep a cleaning kit stored in the compartment.
I might even get the shorter fixed stock as I like the look of the RRA Entry stock

Congrats on your new 15-Sport!
Unsolicited advice alert....
From hard learned experience, shoot your 15-Sport in the OEM, stock form first. You may find that you prefer some stock AR parts over after market & save money.
I bought a MagPul MIAD grip right off the bat, but found out I like the stock pistol grip a little more.
I bought a MagPul MOE stock, but found out the standard M4 stock works just fine for me.
The only part on a stock 15-Sport I really didn't like were the stock hand guards. My hand & the way I hold an AR is more compatible with MagPul MOE hand guards. Other than ergonomics, the heat shields on the MagPul MOE stock are a plus.

Oneyeopn: Good looking pair of irons you have there!
I expect a full report on that Ultradot after you give it a run through it's paces. For that matter, I wouldn't mind hearing how the Sport treats you too.

JHHC: as soon as we get the weather to warm up at least into the 50's I will spend an afternoon at our private range, with targets up, my shooting table and chair set up, either the Lead Sled or the NXT shooting rest and a spotting scope. I really like the way the Ultradot reticle looks going through the sites and I put 5 rounds down range yesterday at about 150 yards and was banging on the gong after the first shot. but I will give a complete range report with pics.

I like it a lot. I'm comfortable with it and like how it feels. Been playing with its location on the rail and I prefer it close to the magazine well even though everyone who shoots has told me to push it to the end. I might do what I prefer though.
My buddy, who is a marine, hates the thing.

Yeah I'm still kicking the idea around. If I see someone on the range with one I'm gonna ask them if I could check it out. The VFG just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe just old dog new trick thing.

Well I finished my gun, for now hahah.
I added an 18" DPMS barrel with a rifle length gas system, nothing special. A Yankee Hill Machine Rifle Length Diamond Series free float rail. A black gas tube so you cant see it through the rail. A low profile gas block. My favorite buy, eotech 512. I freaking love it. I also got a cheap($80) UTG 3x flip to side magnifier. It's pretty nice for the price. I also got a gunfighter charging handle.
Sorry for the ****** pictures I'm going to put some HQ ones up soon.
I did all the "work" myself. I also need to get some more rail covers so I can cover up my entire rail.
