TASCO OPTIMA 2000 RED DOT SIGHT 3.5 MOA S&W SIGMA MOUNT - eBay (item 370237510212 end time Apr-25-10 20:51:21 PDT)

JP Rifles

I was just reading the new american handgunner and saw a page on the optima 2000/J point type red dot sight and the author had nothing but good things to say about it, he had it mounted on a glock, and it blended in nicely, not bulky. He mentioned that guys that use a red dot in compitition win by huge numbers compared to thoose that use iron sites. I was always a big fan of the aimpoint and other reflex/holo sights and when I saw these I was hooked, I guess they used to be made by an english company for Tasco called the Optima 2000, they got discontinued and now J-point is re-making them under the j-point name. They have bases for almost every gun and they look small enough to concel. You can buy the Optima 2000 on ebay for about half of what the "same" J-points cost but who knows how long you can see them on ebay....

I know the Sigma is not meant for target work, but I still find it appealing to pick one of these sights up before they're all gone. With the abiltiy to mount them to many different guns, I feel that I can use it for a while on my sigma, and when I go to buy another gun when its time to upgrade, I will just have to buy a $35 base for the new dovetail.

Has anyone ever used/seen these in action and can offer any personal p.o.v. when using these types of site on our guns? Do they site in easy or will I be chasing the dot all day? I really like the option of having one of these so if anyone has anything to say.......

I have that type sight on several handguns..I find it the better sight over a tube type.. Been using them for quite a few years as the eyes need the extra help that the dot gives..I like the Docter or the Burris best but the old Tasco and the newer J-point do fine..I like the larger dot when available..
Have a couple of the tasco's that need repair, won't hold a zero, but they are about 15 years old and well used..not abused with hot ammo,my reloads are rather mild, just fun shooting..
I do like the fact that the mounts are easy to afix to the rear sight slot
and no holes to be drilled and tapped..
