I did my good deed for the day!
This is just a fun story; not making fun of anyone, just wanted to share the story.
A local gas station attendant looked at my GOT AMMO t shirt, and asked me if I knew about guns. I said; I know some, can I help.
He said "I just bought a new S&W 9mm, my first gun". I responded "Congrats, which gun did you buy"? He said he didn't know, except that knew it was a S&W 9mm. I asked what it looked like, he said black with a silver top. I said I think you bought a sigma, he said no it's a 9mm. Where did you get it, I asked. It was on special at Academy for $300. I said I'm quite certain you bought a sigma 9mm. He said his brother-in-law told him to get it because it was a good deal.
He told me that he shot one box of ammo so far and the gun shoots way low.
I told him I would return early one morning when he was on duty to talk with him about his new gun and gun safety. I have a plan to steer him in the right direction for some professional training. Hopefully I can help!
I'll follow up if necessary,
Lee
edit: I did tell him to read the manual from cover to cover twice before he does anything else.

My .40 sigma is shooting low too. I heard that this is frequently caused by flinching (anticipating and pushing the barrel down right before the break). I went back to a short video my daughter had taken of me shooting it and, sure enough, you couldn't see anything until the end. The slide locked back, but I guess I didn't notice and squeezed one last time. Right then you could clearly see me push the barrel down a tiny bit just as the trigger came back. I've been working a lot on dry firing to correct this and can't wait to try it at the range. This is my first gun and I'm trying to get used to it; I've only previously used my AF M-9 a few times, so the .40 is a big shift in kick. So far, my sigma has 125 rounds thru it and it's been fine.

Welcome to the forum bitstream!! You have come to the right place to advance your shooting & gun knowledge! You have a great handgun as well! I have the 9mm Sigma & love it! I got mine in May. I have around 750 rds through it with ZERO malfunctions!! It seems like it gets better each time I feed it! As long as you strive to be a better shot & search for a soultion for the smallest of problems, that pattern will get smaller & smaller! Good luck on the next range trip! Keep us posted!

Thanks for the welcoming! I'm doing at least a few minutes of dry firing every night to get my muscle memory on the trigger worked in. I now notice that the barrel doesn't move when the trigger breaks. I'm also thinking of polishing up the cam a bit to improve the action. I don't want to get any more agressive than just smoothing and polishing the parts. I already polished the feed ramp; it's as smooth as glass now with no tool marks left. I manually ran an entire mag thru by racking the slide and they all fed/extracted smoothly. Can anyone confirm that the tip posted on this forum of putting a 1:1 mixture of Gun Slick graphite lube and valve grinding compound on the sear cam, pulling the trigger about 100 times, and then cleaning it all off with non-chlorinated brake cleaner will be safe and if it works?

I cannot confirm that.
The only thing that I did to mine, was shoot it. That's all I've recommended to anyone. I personally don't have any desire to make an attempt at hot-rodding a sigma. It is what it is; the most under rated gun in the solar system!
It's never been my favorite gun, but it runs like a Singer sewing machine on steroids.
Smooth as a babys behind!

Thanks. I also do not want to make a foolish attempt at hot rodding it and then make it unsafe/unreliable. I don't, however, mind a bit of polishing only. As long as I leave all the parts in original condition and configuration, I figure it's probably safe. I was super careful when polishing the feed ramp to go very light and only polish. I was thinking that smoothing up the sear cam should be safe too. I do not have any plans on replacing/removing springs; that sounds like a bad idea.

Welcome bitstream! I think all pistol shooters have shot low at one point. That flinch thing is hard to get rid of.

Thank you my friend!
I see your sigma retired a few more "high dollar" boys at the last match!
Great job to you!

Thanks, I just got my sigma at a gun show on 31 July. I was looking for a Glock, but then my wife noticed a vendor with Sigmas for $259 (after $50 rebate). I was skeptical until I got to the table and seen the Smith and Wesson name on it. I figured it couldn't be bad if they put their name on it. I picked it up and talked with the guy. It really is nearly identical to the Glock for about half the price. I figured that sounded good for a first pistol. Instead of the rebate, I ordered the 2 mags (better deal @ $37/each). Can't wait to get them. Before I left the gun show, I wandered by a holster booth and they were really great to find me a IWB that fits absolutely perfectly. I've already got my license and carry it concealed nearly every day now. It rides great at 3:30 and doesn't print at all. So far, I'm very happy with it.
I do need to get another gun to teach my family how to shoot; I was thinking a 9mm for the reduced recoil. I also need to get a lighter trigger for them. My wife likes a full sized grip (she tested a lot at the gun show and does not like compacts) Any suggestions? How is the SD9's trigger? I've read some good things about Springfield XDm?

I here the SD's have triggers like the glocks. XD's are great guns as well.
If you want a great gun with a good trigger, check out the ruger SR9.

Just FYI on the holsters. I talked with a vender who claimed to have some legal issues with a major manufacture of IWB holsters that I said his kind of looked like. It was a real nice broad IWB with adjustable ride hight & cant. Anyway, to the point already! He didn't have one for the Sigma. Since Glock sued S&W over the Sigma design & the G17 is very similar in size I asked if we could try it. It fit very well! It had the same retention as the G17! So If you can't find a holster that says Sigma on it. Try one for the G17.
