Default New Member with a New SD9VE

Yesterday, I traded my Llama XI-A 9mm in on a S&W SD9VE. I couldn't get the Llama reliable enough to trust it and it only held one more round than my Kahr CW9 with the 8 round mag.

Took the SD9VE to the range today and fired 100 rounds without any issues other than the fact that I can't get the sixteenth round into the mag. I chose the SD9VE because many reviews compared the trigger to the Kahr, it has the same manual of arms, and the grip angle is the same as the CW9. The trigger isn't as smooth as a Kahr, but it is similar. I think it will serve me well as a house gun.

Congrats and welcome aboard.

Whatever you do, don't go looking at the Apex Tactical website or figure out how to do a simple polish.

Congrats and welcome! I just bought one myself a couple of weeks ago! My dealer says that these things are flying off the shelf so fast that he can't keep them in stock largely due to the quality for the price, and our 9mm outsells the 40 by about 2 to 1 according to him!

Thumbs up

Welcome to the site from Swamp Country, Louisiana.
I own the SW9VE, SW40VE, and the SD9VE. I don't need another .40 caliber at the moment, so, I'm not getting the SD40VE.
It's your choice, of course, as to what brand/kind of 9 mm ammo to target shoot with. But, IMHO, you can shoot the cheapest 9 mm ammo you can find (usually TULAMMO) and this beast will eat it all day long without one problem at all!
My defense ammo is the Hornady XTP 124 gr bullet and the OATH AMMO TANGO 110 gr bullet. When I load my magazines I alternate the (2) rounds into the magazine.
Hornady Manufacturing Company :: Ammunition :: Handgun :: Choose by Caliber :: 9mm Luger :: 9mm Luger 124 gr XTP®
OATH- Operators American Tactical Hardware . 9MM LUGER TANGO

Ive got 6 factory mags and all were a bit stiff at first. a few folks here advised to fully load the magazines and let them sit for a week or so before taking to the range. I have done this with all 6 and have few issues getting the last round in. I can say however that there is a difference between my first mags and the last 4. Mags 1 &2 have the most rounds at around 500. #3 has around 200 and 4, 5 & 6 have about 200 between them. They will loosen up with use. As will the trigger smooth out. I do not plan on installing any Apex stuff in mine. It is just fine as it is.

Welcome from Cincinnati and congrats on your SD9VE. It's a great gun. I have over 1200 rounds through mine with no failures using a lot of different brands of ammo.

The trigger smoothed out a lot after, only, a hundred rounds. I'm just gonna shoot some more and see how it gets. I'll run a bunch thru it Wed when we take our concealed carry class.

Been buying Perfecta at Wal-Mart, when I can find it. Just under $10 for a box of 50. My gun guy has RPT from Freedom Munitions for $12.50. I buy from him when I can't find any at Wally World.

Welcome to the forum! I'll second the UpLula loader...I love it, and it makes loading all my mags so easy. Lots of live fire (or dry fire) will help smooth out the trigger some, but it will still be somewhat heavy, by design. Personally, I like a heavier trigger on a gun with no external safety...since it's a self-defense gun, that works for me.
