S&W SD9 range report w/ pics
Well I picked up an SD9 last week to possibly replace my Sigma. I like the Sigma but with all of the features that are standard on the SD series I figured why not! I got it home and cleaned it. I dry fired it about 100 times to see what the trigger was like, very nice by the way. The next day I headed to the range. It was about 20 degrees and it started to snow while I was there. I had the SD lubed with Weapon Shield. I fired about 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle, because that was all the practice ammo I had, and then moved on to testing different defensive ammo. I fired 5 rounds of each, slow fire, standing, at 7 yards. I had zero failures and if I had more practice ammo I could have stayed for a long time. The trigger is similar to that of the Sigma except that it is not as heavy. I can't stage it, which I like. And it is consistent through the pull. The only issue I have so far is when I got home and was inspecting the gun I noticed the extractor had moved forward. You can see in the pictures. I can push it back so the back of the extractor is flush in the slide but it will just pull forward when I eject a few rounds. Is this ok or should I contact S&W?
Thanks for the help guys.
Here are the loads that I tested:
Gold Dot 124+p
Gold Dot 147
Federal HST 124+p
Winchester Ranger Bonded 124+p
Winchester Ranger 127+p+
Winchester Ranger 147
Winchester Ranger 124+p
Federal 9BPLE 115+p+

Nice. The extractor does look a little sloppy. I'd certainly call and ask. If nothing else, it will put your mind at ease.

I would call too. I checked my SD40 and SD9 and they are very tight.

Would echo calling S&W. Can only help, certainly can't hurt to see what they say.
Are you pleased overall with the gun? I am thrilled with what they've done with this one (I have the SD9 as well). Excellent value.

Well I called S&W this morning and spoke to a gentleman about the extractor. He told me that this was the first issue he had heard of with the extractor and suggested that I go to the range again and see if it moves any further forward, also to see if affects the functioning. I also sent an email to customer support with the two pictures of the extractor and I'll see what they say. As long as it does not affect functioning and it isn't a safety hazard I don't think I'll make a big stink out of it. I've owned six S&W's and this is the only issue I've had with any of them. Thanks again for your thoughts gentlemen.

I received an email back from CS after I sent them the pics of the extractor. They are going to send me a pre-paid shipping lable to send in the pistol and make sure it is within factory specs.
Just thought I would keep you guys updated on S&W's excellent customer service at work!

Let us know what happens. That's one of the great things about S&W, their CS is second to none in my experience.

Nice report, it's great to hear more about the SD series. That SD40 kit is a pretty attractive package for the price they are selling at now.

After reading your thread, I checked my SD9. It's 3 weeks old and has about 700 rounds on it. i can push the extractor forward like yours with my fingernail if I try, but it was not that way when I first looked, and I have not noticed it forward before. I have not had any mis-feeds. A few FTF and the front sight stopped glowing.
They sent me a pre-paid label already and I'll send mine in on Tuesday to get a new front sight.
