Default click click before boom

hi guys,
i have a sw9ve and although the trigger is a bit tough i love the gun and dismiss the trigger as a grip exercise.

my problem is that when i pull the trigger slowly and deliberately right up to the point before it fires, i get a clicking from the slide.
at about 1/2 travel the slide rocks forward away from me then at about 90% or so, it clicks again as it rocks back towards me.

it looks like if i were to push the plastic piece on the back of the slide down some, maybe by 1/16" or so, that it would present just enough interference to keep it from clicking.

is this normal?
does anyone else notice this?

i should also mention i suppose that this is the first semi-auto pistol i have ever owned.
i have owned a 38 revolver but never a semi-auto, so if this is normal behavior for any semi-auto then sorry for the newbie question.

also, i cant remember if it does it at the range with real ammo in it, but it does it when i am using snap caps at home.

thanks guys

until that trigger breaks nothing should be moving, i think your just hearing the gun being cocked right before the trigger breaks

No, there are two distinct clicks.
The slide is visibly rocking forwards then back again right before it breaks.

I can literally pull the trigger right up to this point, hear the click, then hold it and all I have to do is pull another fraction of an inch and it breaks

I've filled out the form online for a shipping label to have it checked out by smith and wesson.
Anything else I should do?
Anybody have a number I should call?

I was dry firing mine earlier today and mine doesn't to that. I have never sent mine in but I alway call first and speak to someone before I send them anything.

Well I emailed qa and will call them soon after work. Hopefully I can get an answer from them on if it needs repairing. I wonder what would have caused this? I have only shot factory Winchester standard load ammo. No +p or reloads. And only about 400 rounds have been down the barrel. I've done lots of dry firing but that shouldn't cause any problems

Have you disasembled it? maybe the trigger is catching on the slide somehow.

Only for field stripping. I am pretty sure it's just moving due to spring pressure

My 40ve has slide movement as I pull the trigger. I am away from home for a few weeks so I can't hold it and look at the movement but I know that the slide moves a good bit as the trigger is pulled. It seems to be part of the heavy trigger pull on mine. I have always thought that if the gun could be redesigned to stop the slide movement from being part of the trigger action that it would be a lighter pull. The spring tension sounds like the answer on this one.

Well I just got my shipping label so it'll go out tomorrow and we will see what happens. It may be normal but it makes the gun feel cheap and fake when I hear it clicking and moving as the trigger is pulled. If I shake the gun, holding it by the grip, it rattles. Again, it may be normal but it didn't do it new or I would have noticed it and given it right back to the salesman.
Hopefully the turn around on this isn't too long

Well I got it back today. They worked on the trigger and fixed the slide for me. The trigger is simply AMAZING. I never had a problem with it before, but now I can't wait to go shooting. And even better, the slide is nice and quiet.
I simply cannot say enough good about smith and wesson service
