Put the pig back in

Some time back I replaced the outer sear spring on my SW9VE with a lighter one and took the pig tail spring out completely. I polished the sear, trigger bar and the striker lug where it meets the sear. My trigger pull went from about 12 lbs to 7.5 lbs with no failures to reset.

After reading and commenting on several posts here that voiced differing opinions on the wisdom of removing the pig tail spring, I decided to put it back in to see how much it increased the trigger pull. Putting the darn thing back in was a bear, but to my surprise it only increased the pull weight by a half pound - 7.5 to 8.

I think I can live with the pig in for now.

It sounds to me it was likely the polishing which reduced the trigger pull so dramatically, not the spring.

I recall reading about something folks were doing for awhile to essentially get a free factory trigger job was to contact S&W, then tell them that the trigger on their Sigma "felt gritty" which often prompted the CS Rep to send them a free shipping label, then they'd mail in their Sigma and it would come back with polished trigger components and a 7lb trigger.

Also, another thing I read is that the pigtail spring doesn't add much weight at all because all it actually does is something simple like reset the trigger or the trigger safety, so it's actually better to just leave it in.

You may be right but the spring was noticeably lighter than the stock one. I've read the pig tail adds anywhere from 1lb to 1.5 lbs. so I was happy it only added a 1/2 lb. I'll probably leave it in - it was a beast to get back in.

I found the Patent for the original Sigma and it does indeed say the pig tail is meant to back up the other spring(s) to help with reset. That's part of the reason I decided to put it back in.

Had a tough time putting it in myself. I polished the seer and put an Apex trigger on, didn't modify or change springs at all. I also touched up some other areas. Definitely improved trigger pull. Now I just need to shoot it.
