Any chance the SD line will bring us a .45 acp? I sure hope so , I love my SD40 , its highly likely that I will purchase the SD 9 as well , would be great to have the .45 (my favorite round) , if not it looks like I will be getting an MP 45 compact , that is the BEST feel compact 45 Ive ever seen , I know it shoots well also!

The difference would be in price , if the SD had a 45 I could knock off $200 buck from the price of the MP! Im not knocking the MP (I love the MP line), but I can do everything with the SD40 that I could do with the MP ! So send us a lil love and make an SD 45!!!

I very much doubt it. That would be new molds for the frame for a very nitch market. The M&P in .45 is a different enough gun from the 9/.40 version that it took them a while to even ramp up for a known market. I don’t think they would cut those sales. But then I don’t know how much of the M&P line is getting cut sales from the SD line. Or how many sales the Sigmas cut from the other two.

Personally I think the SD should just replace the Sigma line but drop the extra SD options. Make a SD with the same Sigma sights, nix the Sigma rail in favor of the SD’s universal rail and I think they would sell the pants off the SD line. Given the option I would go back to using the original length or longer mags like the Sigma started with. You don’t have to add much to the length to gain a 15 or 16 capacity magazine. But that’s just my two cents on the matter.

But I see a .45 SD as much as I see a .45 Sigma coming. And I don’t.

I would bet that Smith will not make an SD45.

They have so much money invested into the M&P line, I don't think they will offer a lower priced alternative.

True but it would be nice, I only say this because the SD line can be used as a department duty carry gun , it is good enough for smaller departments who cant afford the MP line , that being said , the Sigma line was already out for years and it didnt stop them from making both the SD and MP lines , why stop at @ .40 ? If your gonna have different money categories why not go all out , basically thats what Smith did with the SD line , its a matter of money , calling it a defensive gun doesnt mean anything , all guns are defensive! There isnt a police department on the planet that will tell you the gun your getting is for offensive purposes !
So its a matter money , the MP line is in the $400-600 range and the SD line in the $300-500 range , I like the MPs but I'll take a an SD any day of the week over an MP! Theres just not enough difference to make up the cost for me! However like I said befoe , without a .45 acp it will leave me no choice but to shell out the extra duckets for the MP

The .45 frames are all different than the shorter 9mm/.40 frames. That is why Glock rolled the dice on the .45 GAP as trying to fit a .45 into a 9mm/.40 frame. You are talking about a totally different setup they would have to ramp up for. They sell a lot of Sigmas since they are an attractive price. They sell a lot of M&P’s since they are a proven design now and are very easy to maintain by a department. The SD seems to be filling that gap in between the two with the night sight, rail, and proven ergonomics. But it’s still a small seller in quantity between the other two. Granted I’m just going off what my LGS’s are telling me in sales or if they even bother to stock them. One of them doesn’t since he said it sat there forever. They either have Sigma money or M&P money, he informed me. So I just don’t see them ramping up for production from that kind of sales.

EDIT: I should add that I do agree that it would be an interesting gun though. I think it would be an eight shot single stack to keep those ergonomics though. Maybe a barely staggered stack of ten...

Too hot a round, if you have seen what glock had to do with the g32 ,they put ports on top , I dont know if this increases the risk of slide failure or even cracking, those rounds are hot, you can get a better round its called a .40 SW!

I wish they would make a SD45 for the same price as the 40 and 9. I bought my 40 first. I liked it so much I bought the 9 a few months later. The 9 is now one of my home defense weapons and cool weather CCW. Its a little big to carry with shorts and a t shirt in hot weather, but I have done it.
Anyway, for the price of the SD line, I dont think you can beat it.

I dunno..****ger has introduced the SR45, to accompany their SR line in 40 and 9mm. That's the only polymer .45 they have in production now (the P345 and earlier P guns in .45 have been discontinued.) I'd be surprised if S&W makes one in the SD line...they might make a Shield in .45, to compete with the XDs .45. Now that's a gun I'd like to see!

I know I would be in line to purchase one if they ever do.
How about an SD22TCM. The .22TCM is another new round that is being noticed.
Still like the idea of the SD45 better.
