Default SD For CCW

Who carries an SD for their CCW, and are you using an IWB or OWB holster. I am using a FOBUS SWMP paddle holster, sometimes it is a challenge to hide the outline of the grip. Any ideas other than baggy shirts?

I use the same holster for most of my OC and have a Uncle Mikes IWB that I use when I CC. The Uncle Mikes is a little bulky aslo, but I have been looking at the Crossbreed Super Tuck. A buddy of mine has one and says that it one of the most comfortable that he has used. They are around $70 and have one that fits the SD and Sigma lines.

I am a retired LEO and have been carrying cancelled handguns for … a very long time. I do have a couple of paddle holsters that I picked up along the way for special niches, but all in all I find them to be the least concealable holster that I have tried. Your problem may be with how you dress or with the shape of the grip frame or your body type, but it might be easiest to try a belt slide holster instead. In my experience paddle holsters do not conceal nearly as well as a belt slide holster does.

Also, if there is ANY POSIBILITY that you might become involved in a physical altercation or activity, that you might have to fight someone or run, climb, or crawl… you need a holster that is ATTACHED TO YOUR BODY. The only paddles holster of my experience that might not have come off of my body during a fight was so difficult to put on and take off that a belt slide holster would have been more convenient.

Good luck

Frank

I've had no luck with the paddle hosters for CCW. Try a DON HUME IWB good holsters for the money, PCCH for belt loops or 715 for belt clip. Make sure to get one with the sweat shield.

I carry my SD, in a Tagua belt-slide holster made for an M&P C, or a knock-off of the CB-Supertuck. This guy made me one, and I don't know if he still has the mold. I've asked him and am waiting for an answer- will post when I get it.

I dont have too much difficulty hiding a paddle holster but I agree with the concerns over losing your weapon in an unexpected situation. I use a $9 BLACKHAWK IWB holster. My weapon is cinched tight under my belt and it's so hidden that even my wife and kids forget it' there.

I do! I carry it in a pancake holster for now. In the summer I'll get an extra holster body for my MTAC holster(if they make one). The SD conceals very nicely. A lot easier than my Glock 17 in the summer. The fall and winter months are a lot easier to CCW. The summer time it gets rough.

For concealment, I don't even bother with paddles, IWB or a pancake style belt holster.

Guy emailed me back, he doesn't have a mold for the SD, nor a pistol to use to make the IWB.

I carry the SD in an IWB holster from Kholster, think crossbreed super tuck or MTAC, and it conceals very well. It is reasonably priced and is very comfortable. My belt is either a Wilderness Instructors belt or a Beltman belt.

For owb get a leather pancake type. I have a desantis speed scabbard that works nice. Whatever you get you need one with a cant for service size pistols like the sd.

+1 on the DeSantis Speed Scabbard. If the OWB doesn't fit my mission I use a Dale Fricke "Zach" for IWB (the Zach is made for the M&P but fits just fine).

Anybody else have trouble re-holstering the SD? Only thing I can figure is it's so thin- the holster is so thin- it's hard to slip it in. My other pistols- wider- I can holster in a second. If no one else has that problem maybe I need to practice more. The Tagua belt holster I mentioned- to fit the M&P- was really, really tight. I worked on it some, holstered in wet plastic bag, holstered over and over- but now the SD fits it fine. For $30 it makes sense.

Chuck, I was looking at a Tagua IWB last night at a LGS, it was tight fitting the SD into it adn being new was not easy reholstering, but I figured it would break in over time and start to conform to the pistol. May go pick it up next week. The FOBUS I am using now, no problem reholstering with that

For a tight leather holster, you should wet it then put your gun in a plastic bag (in holster) and leave it over night. Maybe repeat several times if needed.

Yeh, I put the pistol in a plastic grocery bag, wet the bag, left it overnight. Waited another 24 hours to be sure it was dry, still wayyyy tight. So I used two bags, wet them and left overnight. It fits good now. Anyone trying it should remember, you don't want to get it soaking wet, just good & damp. Still hard for me to holster it, but at least I can get it OUT with one hand now. That's important....jk

My Desanti's holsters say to put the gun in a sock then holster it, allow to sit for a few days to help loosen the holster up. I would do a dress sock first, then if still needed a cotton sock.
