Default dry fire sigma

i here some use snap cap and others dont. both have said some have had striker failures. i just got the sigma 40 and have dry fired with no snap caps like about 15 to 20 times could i cause harm to the gun already with no snap caps? and my second question is would i know if i brake the striker right away or i wont know till i fire a live round? thanks.

1) Since dry-firing without snap-caps is part of the takedown that was engineered into your gun, I think your gun can handle it.

2) You can disassemble your slide after every dry-firing to ensure that the striker has not broken during your session. Then you'll feel secure after reassembling it that you'll have at least one good strike.

Although dry firing is OK, my advice is to use a snap cap. This just insures you DON"T break something. Do this on all your guns and you will prevent firing pin breakage from inertia..remember, the firing pin has to stop its forward motion, and since the pin is made to strike the primer where it stops its forward motion rather than hitting nothing, I would lean towards the snap cap..just me..but I like my guns too much and rely on them too much to chance needless breakage or abuse.

I had a striker break after nearly 1000 rounds and a ga-zillion dry fires. S&W replaced it, quick turn around and another 1500 rounds, zero problems. I did use snap caps after the striker failed for "TV hunting". Wife's had plenty dry fire with zero problems. When I spoke to Frank Smith from the warranty center he said, "dry fire!, you broke it", then he added "I'm kidding you, dry fire all you want, can't hurt that pistol". I'm a Glock guy now but do miss my Sigma.

Dry Fire will not hurt the gun at all. As with any metal component there are a extremely few strikers that will fail. Not the fault of dry firing but the fault of the part itself. If those few parts were Magnafluxed I am sure that the metal had a defect causing the failure.

All failures have a signature or sign of what caused them to fail. The average person does not have the knowledge or equipment to identify them.

Point being made: Dry fire practice all you want.
