Whats up folks? This is my first post here on the S&W forum, and I figured I'd get straight to business rather than waste everyones time with a nice introduction thread that probably won't get read anyway. So here it is.

When using the sixteen round mags (purchased used) on my SW9VE, the slide will release from it's locked position and automatically rack the first round into the chamber when I insert the mag into the handle. This does not happen when I use the ten round mags that came with the gun from the factory.

This could be a beneficial attribute to this gun, allowing for speed of reloading or ability to reload with only one hand if injured, but is it really supposed to do that? I can not find anywhere that a Sigma 9VE is designed to do such. In fact, a discontinued Taurus is the only auto pistol I have even heard about designed to do such.

So what do ya think folks? Factory design or dangerous malfunction. Let me know so I can use this feature without worry or send it off the be repaired.

If you load it easy, it won 't.
If you slam it home, it will, particularly if you rest your thumb on the mag catch.
Perfectly normal.

Many self loaders will do that very thing if you insert the mag with authority, no worries.

I hate to disagree, but the sigma was not designed to "autorack". The slide should not move when incerting a magazine, not matter the amount or rounds or how hard its slammed in...

it happens time to time loading it hard can do it. keep the boogerhook off the bang switch and everything will be fine. dont count on it happening. glocks will do it also.

Thanks for the advice. About the same conclusion me and a friend came to about driving the mag home with authority. Outside opinions are always reassuring though.

I've found you can avoid the slide stop from being disengaged when inserting a magazine if you press the mag release while inserting the magazine. And then let up on the mag release as you have it seated.

Just another idea. It's probably not a good idea to let it autorack as it may wear down the slide stop. The same goes for releasing the slide by pressing down on the slide lock (it's a slide lock, not a slide release). While it looks, and feels, cool to do it, it also can wear on the slide stop as it is under tension when you press it down to release. It may not be noticeable for quite some time but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I tried to get my sigma 40 to "auto-rack" did more than insert the mag lightly...lol. Slammed it pretty damn hard as a matter of fact. Never did autorack. I wished it would to, might come in handy in a firefight... Just my .02 cents
