Hello!
Just thinking on getting a cheap laser maybe flashlight for my SD40 not sure if I need to look for one specifically made for it of if the mount is universal.

Go with a quality rail light...you won't regret it!

You really got to check Streamlight, Surefire, CT and other quality products. I purchased a Streamlight TLR-4 light/laser combo for about $130 a few month ago. I could not be happier.

The SD series has the standard "picatinny" rail so you should be able to mount just about any light or laser on it.

Well I wanted something cheap to see if I like the idea and if its something I will carry with me etc. Not even sure if its going to be a problem when I start to carry the gun due to the added size of the laser etc. :)

Finding holsters can be a problem with laser/light combo. Might be better to run a laser on the gun and carry a flashlight. I have found lights to be too bulky for CC.

Yeah , I got one holster for laser which already makes it look big and the one that I have been considering for carry (ready holster) has no space for laser so I dont want to get used to a laser at the range if I am not going to carry it...decisions :)

I use to run a laser but i found it made me a lazy shooter as id only look at the laser and not the sights. A laser can have a certain pucker effect when bad guys see a red dot painted on them. But most actually shootings are point blank range. I have since stopped using them, also i have found holding zero to be a problem. For the same money you can get some really good night sights

Yeah that is why I was looking to cheapo lasers instead of spending a lot to realize I dont like it at the end. :)
Next up for me are a few lessons because it was like 2 years since I shot my Hi-point gun and I went to the range yesterday and oh boy..I sucked like there is no tomorrow! I was no hitting where I wanted and was just like 15ft away. I used to shoot at a higher distance with the hi-point so either the 40 caliber is something I need to get used to...I am rusty for the long time without practicing...or the gun is not shooting straight :D
