Will M&P sights work on a SD9VE

I can tell you that the rear sight for the M&P 9 (full size) fits on a SD9VE, because I just put one on. If the regular rear sight for a M&P 9 fits the SD9VE, then an aftermarket sight for the M&P 9 should fit the SD9VE as well, at least the rear sight.

I don't know about the fit of the front sight, but someone else here might. I also don't know about the fit on a SW9VE or the original SD9.

Thanks to all who replied

my white dots are already coming out. My son wants me to let him paint the back sights orange and keep the front white. The sights I asked about are rather expensive and not sure if they are worth it, but wanted to make doggone sure they fit in case I buy them. I guess I missed the part about fitting a SD9 because I can't find it anywhere on the website I looked at.

IMO, night sights aren't all that worthwhile, and I've had a few. It'd be a lot better to have a good light, or laser, than night sights...especially considering that once you fire the first shot in the dark, your night vision is pretty much going to be gone. Night sights are kinda cool to look at, but not worth the extra expense....again, IMO.

Putting the M&P 9 rear sight on my SD9VE was definitely worth it, IMO...it's a much better sight than the plastic one that comes on the SD9VE. I didn't replace the OEM front sight as it is metal, and has an inset white dot.

Ok, thanks for the insight. The inset white dot is what just came out of mine. I didn't even notice that the front is metal and the back is plastic.

Do you think I could put JP Weld in the front site then paint it white?

I suppose you could, but before I would do that, I'd contact S&W customer service...they will either send you a shipping label to send it in for them to replace it, or send you a front sight free, if you want to have it done locally or try it yourself. I don't think I'd send it in just to have the front sight replaced...if there were no other issues...S&W is pretty fast but still it will be a couple of weeks, I'm guessing. If that doesn't bother you, then letting them do it is the best route.

If you do send it in, be sure to remove any aftermarket parts and accessories...or you may not get them back. S&W tends to return guns to OEM condition when you send them in.

Smith and Wesson CS told me to scrape out the sight, clean with alcohol, then replace with either acrylic paint or white fingernail polish and let dry overnight.

I just noticed - well looked - my white sight fell out/off whatever after my range time yesterday. Time for some day glow paint and a toothpick.

Well, I suppose you could do that...but I think I would be asking to speak to a manager (politely) and see if he or she wouldn't give you a different/better answer. You shouldn't have to do that to your sight, and this is apparently a common enough problem that S&W needs to address it.

I am so confused after talking to CS at Smith and Wesson. The dude told first told me that M&P sights would not work on the SD9ve. I called to get a price on the rear sight. I told him that I talked to someone that had done it, and he said let me check with a fellow that knows more than me. When he came back, he said according to their specs, the front sights are interchangeable, but not the back! I just thanked him and hung up. I'm not sure what specs they were looking at. Where did you buy your back sights, if you don't mind telling me?

This isn't the first example of some reps not knowing what they are talking about. There was a thread here not long ago where a member was advised by a CS rep that SW9VE mags would NOT work in a SD9VE. Also, I think he was also told that he couldn't get the SD9VE base plates, and even if he could, they wouldn't fit.

I spoke to a S&W rep who sent me two base plates for free, and they most definitely do fit, and they work (SD9VE base plate on a SW9VE magazine.)

As for the rear sight, I ordered mine from MidwayUSA. When I got it, it didn't have the set screw with it. Apparently they are a separate item. So, I called S&W, and they sent me two set screws...again, for free. I guess I am just lucky when I call S&W...or they recognize my fine, upstanding character! :D

The rear sight drifted out and then the M&P sight drifted in with a punch. There is a video on YouTube showing it being done, but I don't have a sight pusher, so I had to do mine slowly and carefully with a punch. It's done on a 40, but the procedure is the same:

I wonder if putting some clear, acrylic nail polish or something similar (or super glue) over the white dot would keep it from falling out in the first place?

Conversation with CS

Talked to a more knowledgeable CS agent today. He asked for my serial number, and then told me that my back sights are metal. He is correct. Evidently Smith changed after getting complaints about the back sight being plastic. If I were a SD9VE owner with the old plastic back sight, I would call and ask for a metal one. Anyway, he also told me that the front and back sights of the M&P will work on my weapon, and the truglo sights will work on it also. Any aftermarket sights for m and p will work on the sd9ve. They are dovetailed the same way.
