sd40 ve... with a 9mm barrel
Was at the range over the weekend. With my new favorite pistol...sd40 ve. A guy next to me said I could drop a sd9 be barrel and mag in and keep going. Sounds a little out there. But I thought I'd ask the experts

i would assume you would need the slide assembly as well. i dont think its just drop a 9mm barrel and mag in and fire. i would assume firing pin wont line up the same unless you have the whole slide assembly...

The m&p guys do it all the time so it might be possible. But there are small issues you could encounter by doing this. One of them being the recoil spring being too stiff and not properly ejecting. But by theory of the m&p crew... If the barrel fits and goes into full battery... It should work.

That guy is totally wrong. The Sigma/SD series magazines and frame open widths are diffferent between 9mm and .40, and the 9mm conversion simply does not fit. A few years ago, there were numerous threads on this subject, and it has been tried. The ill-fitting result was a dangerous jam-o-matic. Although the 9mm Sigma mags fit the 9mm SD, the mags do NOT interchange between calibers. The recoil springs are the same, however.......

Not something I plan to try. No desire. Just full filling my curiosity. Thanks for the answers everyone.
This tip came from the same guy that saw me putting 5.56 in an older mini 14 and said I couldn't do it. After one thirty mag he stopped talking lol.
Thanks again for your time

he was technically correct but was ignorant of the fact that all mini 14's actually come with a nato chamber even if marked .223. Bill ruger was a pretty smart fellow after all.

you would need barrel, slide, internals, guide rod with less tension. assuming the mag well is same size, i dont have a sd9ve to try against my sd40ve

But it isn't! The .40 magwell is wider than the 9mm on the Sigma/SD pistols!
The magazines do NOT interchange!
What you need to convert a .40 Sigma/SD to 9mm is THE WHOLE 9MM GUN.
Having both guns makes it very simple to put the 9mm magazine in a .40 frame and see it flop around instead of locking in properly.
I'm not guessing.

I can do this with my M&P 40 Shield but would not try it with my SD 40.I have a 9mm barrel for my 40 shield and it works great.

Does anyone make aftermarket barrels for the SD40 to shoot 9mm or 357 Sig? Does S&W even make a SD357?
I figured maybe that barrel would fit in the SD40 and the same mags too.

I tried a 9mm barrel in my SW40F slide. Barrel fit, breach area alittle to wide causing it not to eject right. Bought a SW9F slide put barrel in and it works great. Slide fit 40F frame. But 9mm mags were a no-go. I use the 40 mags and it works. Would not use as a carry piece. But great for the range.
