Folks,

After shooting 500rds through my SD9VE, I start to figure out that the consistent lower left hit is not caused by my shooting skill, but the sight is misaligned. The front sight is obviously shifted to right. So I was wondering, is there any simple way to get this fixed? Also, how about the elevation adjustment of the rear sight since it consistently shoots low?

Are you covering the target with the front sight or is it at the 6 o'clock position when you aim?

The sights are drift adjustable for windage.
There are no elevation adjustments.
As to the low and left, you're shooting right handed, yes?
Beginners have the same problem with my pistols, but the gun gets better after a few lessons.

Hi I am using the 6'oclock hold. As you may see, the front sight is actually misaligned.

Hi I am a right-handed. This might be caused by learning curve, but the front sight is obviously drifted to right. I measured it with a ruler, and there is approximately 1.5mm difference.

Low left is 9 times outta 10 shooter induced. Take a punch and a hammer and drift the sights to dead center and if you're still seeing low left hits, add some dummy rounds into your mags and see if you are anticipating the recoil and flinching.

I found that I personally have to cover the target with the front sight. I used a bore sight and it confirmed this consistently. Once I knew my point of aim with my iron sights I aligned my rail mounted laser also using the bore sight and even that red dot was consistently behind the white dot on my front sight. Every shot at the range is dead on after finding out what my point of aim and point of impact were.

The other member's suggestions are true as well. Training to use proper trigger pull and not anticipating the shot have tremendous effect on round placement.

when i aim with my sd40ve i have to aim a bit high on my sights. this was proven this weekend when me and the girlfriend went to the range with my aresenal. she shot the hi point c9 which is her fave gun of mine. idk why.. its an ugly beast. but we were shooting at some 5 gallon buckets set on pillars so when you hit it falls down. she consistentlay was low on her shots. i was able to nail it each time on the first shot. it took me a bit but once i learned how my gun fires i was able to aim how i needed to be able to hit the target each time

The only pistol I have ever had to use a 6 oclock hold for is my friends XD9 service model. On the SD I cover where I intend to hit with the white dot of the front sight and if i do my part it will put the round where the dot is covering.

I brought it to the gunsmith today, who has the front sight adjust tool. He said he has seen a couple of SD9 with misaligned front sight and it took 2 mins for him to fix it. Then I tested fire at his range, and now it hit in the lower middle of the target. I believe you guys are right, 6 o'clock hold is not ideal for this model and I will try center cover or dead cover later.

My front sight is off to the left a little, is there a tool I could buy to fix myself? Or was going to a gunsmith the only solution you found?

I was looking at buying a SD9VE. I will probably put about 100-150 rounds per week through it. A store clerk was trying to tell me that this gun would not hold up with that kind of usage. Has anyone found that to be true? That weekly usage has made the gun not hold up or become unreliable?

i have close to 7000-8000 through mine. i usually go shoot 150-200 per trip. low end 100. ive shot as much as 800 in a weekend. no issues as of yet. one thing that may be an issue is the polymer getting hot from firing. may seem to be a little warped. it snaps back to its original spot after cool down. same thing happens with my blocks, i have a g23 and g22

Plenty on here have thousands of rounds without issue through their SD.

The key to longevity is proper ammo and maintenance.
While I err on the side of caution, I field strip and clean mine after every time to the range. I generally throw 100 to 150 down range every week.

I'd love to hear their reason why, what parts fail, and what proof they have.

They're going to say "I heard, someone saw, etc.".

That being said. A violent explosion happens every time you pull the trigger. There isn't a single gun made that hasn't had a failure of one type or another for every model out there.

Correct. And luckily for me, I found a reload it does like.
However...

My SD40VE and my Girls' SD9VE (for sale) have eaten everything thrown at it...
No complaints there...LOL

I'm with hmbiohazard, I shoot at least 200 rounds per week, sometimes more, and I have had no issues. They are very reliable weapons.
