Since some souces say a number of components from the Sigma, SW9VE, SD & SDVE are interchangeable; how about magazines?

Is it one size fits all for this niche of S&W's?

The Sigma series, including SDs, generally can use the same magazines WITHIN caliber. The 9mm and 40 S&W do not interchange with each other, as they are different widths.

For some of the early Sigma magazines, it may be necessary to remove the floorplate and sand a little off the top side to allow full lock in.

That was the reasonable presumption I was hoping to hear.

With the S&W on line factory store wanting $42+ shipping and your first born male child per magazine that's good to know.

When I could not find a SD9VE magazine, I bought a SW9VE magazine and it fit perfectly in my SD9VE. (This was some time ago...SD9VE magazines are more available now; Greg Cote LLC has them in stock.) The magazine body and internals are identical, except for one small difference: on the SD9VE magazine, there is a small rectangular depression on the forward facing side of the tube, right below the feed lips; there is one as well on the SW9VE magazine tube, but it is slightly less defined.

The SW9VE locked into place, fed, locked the slide open, and in all respects worked just as well as the SD9VE magazine. I called S&W customer service and they sent me a SD9VE base plate, which I put on the SW9VE magazine, and other than the small depression I mentioned, it is now identical to the magazines that came in the box with the SD9VE when I bought it. The SW9VE base plate is a little different, in appearance, but it works well in the SD9VE, so I wouldn't bother to change it out again...unless you are as anal as I am. Functionally it's not necessary, and it doesn't even look bad (IMO), but since I was able to get the base plate I switched it out (since I am, as mentioned, anal.)

Since they are both available (at least on Greg Cote's site) and they are the same price, I'd buy the SD9VE magazine, but if you can only find the SW9VE magazine, or it's cheaper, it will work just fine.

As I "opined" in the OP, one would should be able to reasonably presume magazines in the series (SIGMA, SW9VE, SD & SD-VE) should be interchangable.

It just wouldn't make economic/logistical sense for S&W to create "unique" magazines for each minor cosmetic change in the series.

When the SD9 was first released (the precursor to the SD9VE) I asked S&W if the Sigma magazines would work in the SD9. (I had a Sigma at the time.) I was told no, they would not...so, I sold my Sigma with the spare magazines. Only later did I find out that they did in fact work, and work well.

When I bought my SD9VE, I didn't ask CS.

Bummer..:o..I called several internet gun & accessory sites and got the same story from all of them SD, SD-VE, or SIGMA 16 round magazines are out of stock and they don't know when they'll get anymore.

It's either wait or pay the exorbitant $42 @ factory price. As hard headed as I am, I'll wait.

Greg Cote LLC does have them in stock...they are $34.95, plus I think he charges $5 for shipping. I've bought a lot of mags from him over the years, and he's great to do business with.

Check your local cabelas, i was there tonight and they had some used gun parts. I found a sigma 9mm mag for $10. If your lucky you might be able to find one like that.

I have an SD9 on order and I'm glad to see this. I can get SD mags at Academy for about $37., but I know a couple gun shops with newer Sigma mags for $20-25. Plus I have found Sigma mags at gun shows in the $20 range.
Thanks for the information.
