Hi all,

This is my first post. I'm a lifelong shooter who just purchased an SD9VE...couldn't resist that bargain for what seems to be a quality firearm. It's been 1º where I live, so I haven't been to the range to test it yet. To occupy myself in the meanwhile, I've taken to accessorizing my new gun. So far I've just added Talon rubber grips. Also purchased a very nice Amazon.com : VISM by NcStar Discreet Pistol Case (CPB2903), Black : Gun Cases : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41l36vFxudL.@@AMEPARAM@@41l36vFxudL for it on Amazon for $7.50.

I'm interested to hear your favorite additions besides the obvious Apex kit (which I decided not to do–I quite like the action.) Looking for suggestions on light/laser, sights, gear, etc. as I noticed the SD threads aren't very extensive yet. I've seen the stickies for the Sigma series, but I'm looking for specific to SD9/40VE since they are not necessarily interchangeable.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard from Florida the "GunShine" state.

State of over "1 MILLION 120 THOUSAND" Concealed Carry Licenses and counting!

I don't like anything put on my steak, in my coffee, or attached to my SD9VE.

It's carried "as is" box stock, and works just fine!

Welcome to the forum!

There aren't a LOT of accessories for the SDVE series pistols...but then, they don't need a lot. :)

My favorite accessories and sources are:

Extended take down lever (Galloway Precision)
Stainless steel recoil assembly (Galloway Precision)
Steel rear M&P sight (MidwayUSA - out of stock right now)
Pachmayr grip sleeve (MidwayUSA)
Magazines (Greg Cote LLC) [Note: magazines for the SWVE series pistols do fit and function just fine; sometimes you can find them cheaper.]

The steel rear sight for the M&P fits the SDVE pistols just fine...if you order one, the allen set screw doesn't come with it (I don't know why) so you'll need to order one separately. I haven't decided if I want to put night sights on this gun or not. I'm definitely NOT going to put a trigger or striker kit in it...I will leave the fire control group stock, since changing it may invalidate the warranty, and I like a heavier trigger on a gun with no thumb or grip safety (this isn't a range or target gun for me.)

If you want magazine pouches, Academy Sports has some generic pouches that work just fine...a single pouch is $7 or so, and a double pouch is $10 or so. Not as nice as Bianchi, but they work, and have a Velcro closure that holds the mags quite securely.

The only other accessory is AMMO! Kinda hard to find around here.

Other questions that frequently are asked:

Glock parts (like the slide cover plate) will not fit.

Dry firing won't hurt the gun, and you can use a snap cap if you like. Dry firing and live firing will help the trigger improve somewhat.

You can't convert a SD40VE to a 9mm by swapping the barrel and magazines, like you can with a M&P. You can't convert a SD9VE to a .40 S&W, nor can you do that in an M&P.

There isn't (as far as I know) anyone who makes slide cover plates, grip plugs, or other common Glock accessories that fit the SDVE series of pistols.

I'm sure there are others, but perhaps someone else will chip in, or you can read the topics in this forum.

there is a place selling grip plugs, (would have been a little awkward saying butt plug) there was a post about it not too long ago. they were like $4 or something

The Glock G17, G19, G22, etc. slide take down bar will fit the SDVE series pistols.
The Glock G19, G22, etc., guide rod will fit the SDVE series pistols.
The M&P S&W rear sights will fit the SDVE series pistols. Don't forget the set screw!

Welcome !! I am also a new member !! I haven't added too much, just a bit of skateboard tape to a couple select areas (underneath trigger guard & on top of the slide. The tape on the slide top is for glare reduction AND for a
grippier" surface to do a one handed emergency reload.

I do intend to change the sights, if only because it's (at this time) less expensive than new glasses.

I've been toying with some Traction Grips or Talon grips, due to the grip feeling a bit slippery at times.

These are not heavy duty mods and all can easily be reversed.

I would like to try an APEX AEK trigger, but just the trigger, NOT the spring kit. I believe the APEX gives slightly better mechanical advantage over the articulated S&W trigger.

This is what I've tried and what I would like to try !! Not too big of a $$ outlay !!! I generally like stock guns, ESPECIALLY protection guns. YMMV !!

Welcome to the site Pew...

Like others, I got the Galloway Slide Extension Plate and also the Stainless Recoil 17#spring/rod.

From Amazon, I got the NDZ Rear Slide Cover Plate. It's metal(stock is plastic) and has a lazer design of wolf howling at moon. Got the black anodized one. I heard the silver ones don't match the stainless finish of the slide on the SD/VE.

You should watch some Youtube videos that will show you how to r&r the cover plate if you don't know how, for firing pin and spring removal/cleaning anyway.

You'll find that Amazon has a fair selection of accessories/parts from vendors for the SD9VE and if you know what can interchange from other S&W models or off Glocks, you can find enough things that you'll stay busy for a few days deciding what to pick out.

Welcome Pew, from Idaho, the other Gunshine state were after 6/16/16 you won't need a CCP. I too like my SD9VE right out of the box. Then I had to get one for the wife. The best thing I've done to mine is put about 1k round down the tube. I will however replace the guild rod and spring as the factory one is getting a bit mushy, still shoots great. I will update the progress as I try to ware out my SD9VE.

Shoot, Shoot, Shoot and then Shoot some more.
We must all be proficient.

Update:
WOW!!!
Thanks Disabled1, I put the 20# Galloway spring in mine. You are right on the money when you say 1/3 to 1/2 rise reduction, at least. I just took .2 sec off my draw and fire time. Fantastic, thanks.

KB, you're so correct. This is the "BEST" accessory that can be added to any SDVE or SWVE gun.
I added the Galloway 20# Glock G19 guide rod to my SD9VE. Man, what a difference! The recoil (muzzle rise) is "almost" cut down a 1/3 to 1/2! And, after about 1K rounds through it since the install, not one FTF, FTF, or FTE.
My factory S&W M&P rear sight should be here today or tomorrow. The only reason I changed it was because the factory sight only has the dots painted onto it without ANY indentations.
After I ordered it I saw a YT video where a guy used a punch to make the indentations in the dots. Ah well, at least I can say I have an M&P sight. :D
I have Amazon Prime and have ordered everything from there. Absolute low prices and 2 day FREE shipping! How can you go wrong? ;)

I have a Glock Gen3 Ti captured guide rod and spring in my parts kit that I'd removed from a G19 I sold, and I decided to try it in my SD9VE. It works just fine but the front "button" sticks way out of the slide and looks silly. I'll keep it just for emergency use.

Apex spring kit.
Apex trigger.
I also installed a stainless guide rod w/slightly increased power spring.

So far so good. Trigger modification is worth it. The stainless rod & increased power spring cycle common 115gr off the shelf ammo just fine. I'm at the 700 round mark.

Best Accessories for the SD9VE:
Ammo,
Ammo,
M&P Rear Sight,
Ammo,
Additional Magazines,
Galco Triton TR472 IWB Holster,
Ammo,
Ammo,
eventually a factory replacement Recoli Spring Assembly,
Ammo...

Best Regards,

JaPes,
Indeed it is. You can add a front night sight to your SD pretty easily. I recommend a sight pusher if you go with night sights. The impact of the hammer and drift method can break the tritium ampule in night sights.

I'm looking forward to experimenting with the SD40VE this afternoon now that I have the steel guide rod upgrade installed but I think a front night sight will be a must after something I discovered.

I was doing some dark low-light/no-light training where I was lighting up areas with a handheld flashlight and looking down my sights and found that all of them were completely black. I couldn't see the white dots, just the shadowy ridges. So, that's basically unacceptable. I don't need anything glow in the dark but if I light up my target and Still can't see my actual sights, it's a problem. So, when I take my primary gun in (the 9) for the Apex upgrade, I'll also be having the gunsmith install Williams Gun Sights.

Other than that, I've switched over to the Hogue grip sleeves because the palm swell is thicker than on the Pachmayr, and helps mitigate recoil shock particularly on the SD40VE.

My favorite accessories and sources are:

Stainless steel recoil assembly (Galloway Precision)

There is a MAJOR flaw that has been found with the Galloway Guide Rod Assemblies. They are causing breakages in the frame.
If anyone is using a Galloway guide rod assembly (or any aftermarket guide rod for that matter) in their SDVE, I highly recommend you take it out immediately, and read this thread:
