Sounds like a point of aim issue. According to others on here, the SD is set up to cover the target with the front sight instead of a 6 o'clock sight picture. Using the 6 o'clock point of aim would cause you to hit low on the target. I cover the target and have no problems.

SD40VE bought just cause it was such a good deal. After 500+rounds I'd carry this weapon if I were still on the job.

Thanks for the info! I should have some time to get to the range this weekend to try what you suggested.

SD9VE here in E-Texas.
HD and blinking. Shoot now about 3500 rd all kinds of cheap ammo, never had a problem to fire.
It's almost like in the good old days. Just take a round that said 9 mm and shoot. I don't know what to do to mess it up. May be hammering a 45 in a 9 mm barrel will do it- (just kidding).

Owned my 1st gen Sigma 9mm since 2007. Got it from my step dad. He got it back in 98-99, he said it was a police trade in. Has night sights on it and they still glow too!

Became the proud owner of a new SD9VE on 8-2-2014. Fired the first 100 rounds through it 8-8-2014 with no hiccups/issues at all! The club that I normally shoot at has the pistol range closed, with possibility of not being open again till fall. Gonna have to find somewhere to shoot before I go crazy! :-0

Had the chance to fire another 50 rounds Blazer Brass through the SD9VE last Wednesday. So far, this thing seems to shoot everything with no issues. Hoping to try a few reloads and see how it does. So far, liking it a lot!
Tally so far: (all 115 gr. FMJ)
50 rounds military ball (FC 96)
50 rounds REM-UMC
50 rounds Blazer Brass

SD9VE. First pistol purchase. My dad gave me his old Colt King Cobra 4inch barrel and Beretta 92FS. I like how simple the internals are on this gun. Getting used to the trigger coming from DA/SA Beretta. Trigger pull is not has bad as people say since I have not owned or shot other pistols to notice it. It's a simple polymer gun, lighter than the Beretta, and costs less than the Glock19 or Springfield XD9 I was looking at. Very happy with my purchase.
Now I just have to learn the trigger because my shots are pulling left.

Accessorizing your Sigma/SD Pistol via eBay
I'm a long-time Ebay Seller and Buyer (more of a buyer with 237 items purchased versus 77 items sold), but this is the first time I searched eBay's category for "Shooting Accessories." Given that I have had zero issues with 98% of my 237 purchases since I joined back in April 2000, and have scored some incredible bargains in the process, I have no qualms about recommending it as a known resource for known products offered by other dealers and online retailers.
The downside is that you will always find some sellers asking more than MSRP for their wares, so the way I shop is to do a specific search and sort the results from low to high, working my way up the price ladder until I find something I want to buy now or bid on.
As far as gun accessories go, it is easier to visit eBay first because of the greater variety and selection of items that don't require the visitor to go hopping from one section of a website to another.
My current interest is in finding an add-on grip for the SD9VE. Needless to say, i found a wide assortment of options that I didn't find on traditional online websites for guns like CheaperthanDirt or on meta-search sites like Gun-Deal and slickguns, as well as on large sporting goods chains like Academy, Cabelas, Dicks, and GanderMountain.
A "Shoppers Guide" section (for everything but guns and ammo) might be a helpful addition to the forum. It could save a member from having to post a WTB ad in the classifieds if he or she were able to locate it on eBay.
The "Guide" wold also be useful in helping owners choose from among a number of competing products - such as the many choices found under "Cleaning products" - especially the wide range of products offered by Hoppes.
Besides looking for a grip, i was also interested in seeing what they had available in holsters should I get the notion to carry an SD.
Many products will say, "Will fit Glocks" and then rattle off a list of their model numbers. Asking a retailer if that Glock holster will work with your SD will usually get you an "I don't know." On the other hand, the eBay seller would be able to answer the question having sold hundreds of the same holsters to SD owners.
It's just a thought I had.

Although I have retired back to Oklahoma I ordered an SD9VE CA compliant gun through Bass Pro. Took some effort to get them to change their standard practices but they did.
I like the added safety features of the CA version and it will allow me to very safely leave a round in the chamber and the magazine partly out for my wife who may not be able to rack the gun when necessary.

I must ask, what are the added safety features?

I guess they are not clear in the S&W website-
1. Trigger disconnect if magazine not in.
2. Tactile (pop up) round in chamber indicator, can feel in the dark.
3. Ten Round Magazine (Not a safety feature, just a CA requirement. I don't mind but do have some 16 round magazines to facilitate efficient range time.)
Since the gun will live most of it's time in a drawer these will be helpful. Also, I can leave a round in the chamber with the magazine partially out and my wife won't have to be able to rack the slide, just push up the magazine to change the gun from a super safe condition to a firing condition in an instant. As for me, I sometimes get up in the morning to find that I had turned a computer off but left a printer on. With the round in chamber indicator I can understand the guns condition in the dark. Although I have a concealed carry license I don't expect to use it in ordinary situations.
I have previously posted that in our very safe new neighborhood we have had a knife killing, a gun event tnat includes shots that hit a front yard, followed by a suicide. The beheading at the food plant was 2 miles from our home, and my post about Real Life self defense described a defensive killing last week, 18 miles from here.
The magazine safety system adds several parts to the sear block assembly. Scott of Apex says they are planning a new video to cover installation of their spring set on the CA guns.

SW40V owner here. Bought in 1999. Not my favorite gun by any stretch. But it's okay for the range and as a drop gun. Matte finish slide with black polymer lower.

I'm looking for anyone who wants to sell their SD9VE - especially if it is in the all-black Melonite finish.
I want a used one that I can send off to Galloway Precision to trick out with all their new enhancements - or try doing them myself.
I wouldn't mind spending extra for a 1st-class job on one.
Speaking of 1st class SD's, take a look at the ultimate custom SD9VE from Vayserarms:

Also just got mine. I had the opportunity to inspect it both when purchasing it as well as when picking it up and I was absolutely enamored with how *perfect* the thing fits in my hand. The only thing I ever fired before this was a BB gun shaped like a 92F so I don't have a lot to compare it too. But I wanted a widely trusted self-defense weapon and between clear-as-day sights, easy-reach mag release and the great grip they give you on the slide for racking it, I can't believe it didn't cost me twice as much and I haven't even fired the thing yet.
I'm looking forward to getting my chance when I go to the training range for my basic pistol NRA certification training. The only thing I had to get used to was that most things I've read say semi-autos "lock" the slide when you pull it fully back, but on these SD40VEs I keep having to remember that you actually need to let it "rest" slightly *forward* of the rear-most position so that as you're pushing up on the stop, it has something to catch onto. I kept struggling and struggling until I relaxed, slightly let it run back as I was pushing up and--presto--it worked.
Looking forward to discussing my shooting experiences with the SD40VE soon.

I hadn't shot a pistol in a decade, and before that I was a SA revolver/1911 guy. I bought a well used SW40VE two months ago and had to relearn how to shoot (good friends helps.) After three hundred rounds of white box, and learning to wait all the way through the trigger pull, i got this grouping at ten yards today. Plenty good shooter.

I think so? Before December I never heard of a Sigma. For $200 with ammo I was happy bullets came out the front. Turns out I'm fond of it, like an old reliable tool. I ran a few mags through my wife's almost new Glock 17 today, and then shot better with the .40. I do have to say I like the Sigma better.

Picked up a SD9VE a couple of days ago. Local gun-store had it for $275. Ergonomics are outstanding. Got an extra magazine for it, so now have three. Had a Glock and like this better. I am gonna try and keep it stoked with 124gr loads.

I bought one recently and it is a great value. The MA 10 pound trigger is heavy, but I am used to revolvers.

Bought sd9ve about a month ago. I bring it to indoor range weekly and it eats whatever I feed it. So far so good. I put about 600-700 rounds through it no issues at all.

Sigma was the model / brand applied to the first generation of the series, but not the subsequent models. The SW40VE was a value enhanced update based on the original SW40F (Sigma). The SD40VE is the next emanation and took it a few steps further from the original. So while it is part of the Sigma heritage, I would not necessarily call it a Sigma.

Bought my SD9VE a couple months ago at the LGS. I hadn't been gun shopping in 20+ years and I had never heard of this model before. But it felt right as soon as I gripped it, and the price was quite a bit less than I had planned to spend for our new house gun. I also liked the fact that it's compact and light enough to carry if the need arises.
Circumstances have prevented my shooting more than a dozen mags through it so far, but it hasn't failed once.
I was primarily an S&W revolver guy in my previous life (aside from a customized 1911 I wish I had back), and so I didn't have any trouble getting used to the trigger pull, and the lack of a thumb safety doesn't bother me at all.

LJ, is this poll only for current owners or if you have owned any in the past as well? What about the current SDVE series? I see no selection for them.

I see you liked my post from a good while back , just to let you know my SD9ve is still rocking , trained 2 new shooters with it the last being my daughter who is trying to take it as her own.
I don't shoot it as much as I did cause I am trying to get proficient with the couple of 380 pocket guns we have , seems to me the need has arised to CC all the time.
Same as you , old revolver guy I still have an old S&W snub 38sp hard to believe in it's day it was the pocket gun.

I am sure you will enjoy your SD9

As I have stated before, there once was an SD9 and SD40. At the same time there was the Sigma SWVE 9&40 series. I owned one of each of the SWVE pistols.
Later on, S&W combined the Sigma SWVE series with the SD series pistol to form the SDVE series pistol. I don't see this selection in your poll.

My first 9mm is an SD9VE. Bought it LNIB. Didn't really like the caliber until I started with this one. Wow! Quick out of the holster, on target and fire right now. I must admit I sold the 9mm caliber short for accuracy. I shoot a Glock 21 as well, have many range hours with it. Out of the hole and down range I can beat my best time by .8 sec. The SD just fits right. I think S&W really has something great with this frame. Wish they would make it in 45 ACP. Like it so much I bought another for the wife and she loves shooting it too. Great design, 16 round mag, great price, can't go wrong. Bang!
Shoot, Shoot, Shoot and then Shoot some more.
We all need to be proficient or better.

I carry my SD40VE daily in a Raw Dog IWB holster. Year round, shorts or jeans. Just a good all around basic pistol that eats every bit of ammo I feed it. I bought mine a little over two years ago and am still happy with it.
