There are quite a few missing variables, here. You don't say as to how you sent it in for repair. I will assume that you sent it to the factory (2100 Roosevelt Avenue
Springfield, MA 01104) for repair. Did you call or email first and get a return label, or did you send it back through the gun store from which it was purchased?

If you sent it directly to Smith & Wesson (with their return label), then you can probably expect to see it back in 3-6 weeks (considering that we just had a National Holiday this week). If it is a repair that will cost you money, they will tell you what that cost is, via phone and/or EMail. If payment is involved, they will not start work until after they receive payment and the payment clears the bank.

If you sent it back through a gun store, there will be further delays. Gun stores typically don't drop everything to send your gun back. They get to them as fast as they can, but there are paperwork and procedures involved, and they often only ship stuff out of the store on a particular day (not every day). Sending it back through a gun store will typically add a week (if not more) to the "get it back in your hand" date.

Calling them (1-800-331-0852, ext. 4125) to check on status is not out of the question, but for Pete's sake, give them time (at least a week) to look at it first.

You can also EMail them: [email protected]

Regardless how you send it in. After arrival, your gun ends up in the incoming repairs shelve. There is it waiting until all the 387 guns from other customers that arrived that day are repaired or handled. Than it is your gun. Ohhh we don't know what happen to the gun. OK we think it's minor and the hammer click was not loud enough or something similar. They fix it and than it goes to the ready to send back to the customer shelve. Than a retired granny works for S&W as a volunteer, checks again if the hammer-click is now loud enough and makes a packing list. A other volunteer packs the gun and trows your package in the outgoing box for the post office.

Now add the time and the way how you shipped it and adjust the time frame that is necessary to fix the gun (in case it was not the hammer-click noise) and voila you've got your private return date.

Did it help?

Ok I deserved the smart A** comments was late and didn't notice that I didn't put in all the info I have replied if a few other peoples post about issue I have.

Ok I purchased a new SD40VE from Academy Sports The next day I went out to fire it and pulled the trigger no click no boom about 2 sec later the gun fired. I cleared it and checked did not see anything wrong so i tried to fire again this time still no click but if i hold it for a sec or two it will fire its just a delayed click ( not the primer)

I came inside and called S&W the tech told me to strip it and look for anything out of place didnt see anything he sent me a label in my email i called fed ex and in 3 hours it was on the way to them set at fed ex due to holiday

Anyway i dont want to call and rush them thats why i was asking here what normal turn around is. Im wondering because its a brand new gun i had for less than a day

Hahaha, OK
It takes 4-6 weeks depending on how busy they are, means how many people send something in.
4-6 weeks that's the number.
I wouldn't contact them before at least the 4 weeks are over.

Did this help?

There seem to be a few more issues reported with the 40 than the 9.
Love my SD9VE, no issues yet.

No issues with my Sd40ve that weren't ammo related.

My SD9 has had no issues, but I have had other S&W guns that did (shield). S&W are very efficient in how they move things through their facility. The average, other than in early August when the company is on vacation, is three weeks, portal to portal. My Shield took 22 days. If there is no major issue, the turn-around time will be quick. If I remember, it sounded like your firing pin was hanging up somewhere in the striker channel. That should be a very easy fix. They will send you a sheet that lists what they did. You can call, but all that will result in is a person in the office looking up your case number, giving you an arrival date, and telling you that it normally takes 21 days. Trust me, calling just adds to the frustration. Just be patient, read everything you can read so that you know your gun inside out and backwards, then start comparing different ammo types till you become an expert, then watch youtube SD series videos (there are about 40 million or so). The time will pass, and in the grand scheme of things, by the end of October, you'll forget it was ever gone.

You made a good choice. The gun is a good one. It may need to be tweaked by the mothership to get it to behave, but it will be fine, and by the time you get it back, you will be an expert on all things related to an SD series, and you'll know a good bit about ammo.

Keep the faith.

You can call them. I have called them many times over the years and never received a big sigh over the phone, or talked with anyone who seemed "put out" that I called to inquire about a firearm. They are typically nice people, there.

Agreed, they are very pleasant folks to deal with.

I did not mean to imply that they would frustrate you, and I apologize for not being more explicit, but not really knowing anymore when you hang up than you did when you called leaves me feeling frustrated. It has nothing to do with what they do on their end.

That is debatable.
If you call someone to gather a certain information, and all what you know after the call is, that there are very nice folks there, this is frustrating period.
When I call Dallas airport to know when my sister with AA # 000 will arrive and they are very nice but don't give me an answer, than I am more than p***d. They told me very nicely once that the arrival chart is online.

I would give the nice folks from S&W 4 weeks before I call. My calculation: 1 week to 1 week from s&w. 1 week waiting because someone else gun was before me. After 4 weeks you should become an answer.
I had this experience with different brands. It takes 4-6 weeks depending what happen.
