Default Just bought my first sd40.

I bought a sd 40. Looking for some pointers on what I should and shouldn't avoid. And I'm also wanting to change a few things. Like sights, trigger, and guide rod.

Personally I would get some boxes of good name brand rounds, and feel your new weapon before making any changes without knowing what to change, if any.

I got my SD9VE 9mm, bought some Winchester and ZQ1; went to the range shot the Winchester no problem at all.
The gun jammed using ZQ1, so stay away with that brand, and many range don't allow steel or Aluminum casing.
Post back after the range and your feeling of your new gun

When I got my sd40ve, I got caught up in the "what can I do to make it better" boat. I put in a spring kit to lighten the trigger. (Galloway I think). And I replaced the take down lever with a wider one. Beyond that, no changes. Oh, and i bought an uplula to overcome the stiff mag springs. The gun runs like a champ but I wish I'd left it stock for a few hundred rounds to get to know it better first.

I just remember I did replaced was the take down catch, since it's a PITA to hold down while holding back the slide. Galloway has them, but I got mine on Amazon for $15.00 free S&H from the same company that sell's them for more money.
Now I can remove the slide with one hand instead of two.

Can't help there. My 40 is my night stand gun. I have cheap OWB for when I go to the range. Not even sure of the brand...just something I found on Amazon.

That take down bar is indeed too short. After many broken finger nails, bruises, etc., I bought the stainless steel version. I think there are two on the market. One is machined and the other is supposed to be laser cut. Incredible improvement to my SD9VE-CA. Mine has "straight" edges, not the tapered ones in the picture.

I finally put some rounds down range Saturday at about 5 yards. I was very surprised to how comfortable the trigger becomes. I still want to change the sights. But overall this one pistol has become an obsession.
