Both magazines?

I have two 10 round magazines and they both work fine.

Only problem was getting the 10th round in at a cold outdoor range. My fingers just didn't want to push that hard.

Raitor, welcome to the group. I hope that you can solve your problem. Since you are in California, I suppose that your new SD has that horrible bar thing that raises up to indicate a loaded chamber. Ten round magazines right? I bought my SD9 here in Tennessee a few days ago with 10 round mags and they work fine. I bought a couple of extra 16 round mags and I can't get 16 rounds in either one of them. I am not a wimp either, I mean that they will not take 16 rounds period. Not sure what to tell you for advice on your problem. Usually on a "normal" gun the problem of last round not feeding is sometimes related to weak mag springs or something bent or not shaped right on the top of the mag body. However your problem may be related to the new thingy on the slide that indicates a chambered round. If both mags do this all the time, I would call S&W and ask them to send two new mags or springs and followers for yours. What do you think?

I have a California gun in but live in another state. The "Chamber Loaded" indicator has nothing to do with extracting a round from a magazine, nor does the magazine safety come into play in this situation. That indicator contacts the round only when the slide approaches the home position.

Added note: I just verified, with a snap cap here at home, that the "LOADED WHEN UP" bar only touches the round during the final 1/8" of travel back to firing position.

I hope Raitor can tell us whether both magazines have this problem.

The next test, assuming both magazines have the problem, would be to load a single round (preferably a safe snapcap) and see whether racking the slide will pick up that one round.

We can go from there.

On the 16 round mag I assume you know to let them set loaded with the 15 you can get in ? I have three & after two years I can now get 16 in all 3 that was leaving them loaded all the time.
I don't bother any more just go with the 15 I find that mine works better that way. I found with 16 the mag is harder to click in place & pushes up on the slide ( or what ever ) & makes it harder to rack the slide.
On the California mag I have no clue.
Here in the great state of Georgia I could put a 35 rounder in it if I could find one

Yes, I have tried all of the obvious. I even took the follower out and removed the "feet" so it could move down further. I did get the 16th round in but still too much pressure on the third rail of the gun to be reliable. I now just load 15 and go.

I sent a PM to OP. He responded that he couldn't find his post so I sent him a link. So far no response from him even though there have been several comments and suggestions by forum members.

Hard to help someone who doesn't respond after one post.

Thanks for all the feedback. The non feeding issue was before going to the range and cycling the magazine by racking the slide to empty the chamber and reload from magazine, the last round continually jambed. Finally at the range this only happened once through a 100 rounds. New issue, none of the videos from Apex or Smith & Wesson address all the extra parts on the CA Compliant SD9VE. After the initial take down, the removal of of everything is different. Thank you CALIFORN#$%IA. Anyone no of a link to show how to change springs and remove trigger? Sorry for not responding I had not been back on the site for a while and couldn't find my own post. Technically challenged. Raitor

Raitor - You would benefit by reviewing all the threads on this forum before making decisions about modifying your gun. I special-ordered a CA roster gun even though I moved away from CA 7 years ago. I appreciate some of the features in that version, although I do have some 16 round magazines. I am keeping my SD9VE-CA stock except for a longer barrel stop lever which speeds takedown.

If you decide to modify your weapon, you might contact Scott Folk at Apex. He indicated late last year that he was considering making a new video covering the CA version.

Any change you make will remove your specific gun from the CA roster. It also might be treated, under California law, as equivalent to a California resident deliberately importing a non-compliant gun from outside the state. I have absolutely no legal training but have reviewed the CA roster requirements and that is the conclusion I have reached.

You should make your own analysis of CA gun laws, they are all available on the Internet.

It will be interesting to see whether the highly contested California microstamping rule comes into play, (and revolvers will be included in that law). If it does, several manufacturers have declared they will no longer make guns for sale in California. That will make the California used gun market become white-hot.

As it is, it costs (I think) from $30,000 to $40,000 to pay an independent company to test and certify a gun for the CA roster. It looks like a certification expires in 1-2 years. [Not sure what the law says, I just see 1-2 years on the expiration dates shown on the roster.]

S&W has already dropped some of their guns from CA sales.

Yup, in training my wife here in the house, I found that a really smart racking action is required to eject and re-load a snapcap.

Other than adding things to the outside of a gun, I keep all the mechanical aspects, of said firearm, as they came to me from the factory. They have lawyers write these stupid "loopholes" in their laws, so unless your a lawyer that knows the law and basic gunsmithing, why take the chance?

Was having similar problems with full mags. There is a video on you tube which shows how to fix. Took about 3 minutes for each mag and after 300 rounds with both 115gr and 124gr it worked flawless.
