SD9 slide problems
The slide on my SD9 is getting jammed. Slides back just fine when i release it will sometimes slide back into place and sometimes will get hung up causing miss fires. Does it empty as well as loaded. I know i am not limp wristing it have well over hundred hours of training and use of other weapons.

I would suggest problems with maintenance (cleanliness), lack of proper lubrication, or issues with the current recoil spring. (having first eliminated all hardware, parts fitting, and ammunition concerns)

How new is the pistol? It could be a tolerance issue, maybe. If new, did you clean it before taking it out? You will be surprised how much grime is in a new firearm. If not new, how often do you clean it and what do you lubricate and with what?
I find a quality gun grease, lightly applied on the frame rails makes a big difference and unlike a battle rifle, pistols should be cleaned fairly often. Carbon builds up pretty quickly on the bottom of striker fired pistol slides.

Any idea how long they had it and how much it was shot? It could be the recoil spring is worn and not strong enough to return it to battery anymore. It could be that i just needs to new spring but I don't want to just throw parts at it either.
How does the slide feel when you run it? Does it seem a bit easy to pull back? I'm just trying to troubleshoot it as best I can over the internet since I can see it and handle it in person.
What kind of ammo are you using? Sometimes that matters with semiautos.

I'll send you and email. When you say it's real easy to pull the slide back, are you saying it slides easy or that the recoil spring is not giving much in the way of resistance? Do you have other semiautomatic pistols to compare the spring resistance to?
In my case, the pull is requires a solid grip and gives a strong pull wanting to return the slide back into battery. Not quite as heavy as my Kimber UCII or Springfield XDs but it's still quite authoritative.
If it isn't like that, we may have found your problem (weak recoil spring). I'll send you an email in any case for some pictures.
Also, when it hangs up when empty, is this with the magazine in, out, or doesn't it matter?
The Federal Ammo, is it ball ammo or hollow points? I've seen instances when it doesn't matter. Some ball ammo feeds fine but other manufactures don't. All ball ammo feeds fine but some hollow point ammo is a problem. The ammo may be a different issue concerning manufacturer and bullet preference. So it may need to be figured out separately. Sometimes, the only way to get hollow point ammo to feed reliably is to use ammo with a polymer tip like Hornady. The feed ramp just doesn't like the hollow point and won't feed properly. My XDs can be like that sometimes but will run polymer tipped ammo and ball without a hiccup.

Re: S&W SD9 VE slide release
I have followed all your steps and watched a YouTube video.
The slide is still not releasing!
I have strong hands and have had no problem with any of my other guns.
Yes the gun is new and when I could not open it,
I decided to shoot and see if it would open then with no success.
Any suggestions would be gladly welcome,
so I can clean my gun!

This reminds me of another post (I think) where the issue was a warped frame.
