Hi Everyone!
New to the forum and looking for info on an SD9VE Holster for training at FrontSight in Nevada.

* I can't use either Fobus or Blackhawk Serpa holsters. *

Does anyone have any recommendations for a holster that fits the SD9VD for training purposes and daily OWB carry while on range? I have no plans to conceal carry in the immediate future.

I'm considering Alien Gear but have no other viable options as LAG Tactical and BladeTeck do not offer something I can use on an SD9VE.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Recommended Holsters

  • Firing side, outside waistband (OWB) belt holsters are recommended for all handgun classes. Inside the waistband (IWB) holsters, depending on style, are permitted for all classes, but are not recommended. IWB holsters should not be worn forward or past the firing side hip for range use.
  • Holsters must have full trigger guard coverage.
  • Holsters should have a vertical cant.
  • FBI cant holsters are allowed, but discouraged.
  • Holsters with a cant greater than 15 degrees are not allowed.
  • Thumb-breaks must be taped out of the way.
  • Blackhawk Serpa or similar holsters requiring trigger finger release mechanisms are not allowed.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO THIGH HOLSTERS, even for advanced handgun students.
  • Leather holsters are acceptable provided they are rigid enough to remain open when the gun is withdrawn and their thumb-breaks can be taped out of the way.

Blackhawk Sportster Ambidextrous Holster

Get you the Blackhawk Sportster Ambidextrous Holster with Mag Pouch SIZE 5 it fits barrel lengths of 3.75in - 4.5in, there a fairly inexpensive good quality holster that you can use for everyday carry or whatever, but for what your going to be using it for its perfect as well. They do have a thumb break on them that is adjustable but you can also remove them easily if need be or tape them back which ever you like. They are a nylon/padded holster made of 600 denier thermo-bonded poylester laminate and they do not wear on the finish of your gun at all really. You can also wear it IWB with the clip or OWB with the belt loop.

theres 1441 holsters and blueline concelment for kydex and desantis makes some options in leather.

Maybe not what you want to hear, but if I were spending the considerable cash to take courses at Frontsight, I'd first equip myself with an M&P Pro9 5" bbl pistol with 5 magazines and the Blade Tek kydex OWB holster and mag holders. Don't forget a high quality stiff pistol belt.

If you're going to run with the big dogs, show up ready to run. You should be able to draw and reholster without looking at the holster.
If you want to learn the basics with the gear you have, I suggest the NRA courses from a qualified NRA instructor.

Depending on the time frame before class and the finacial situation look inot raven concealment and Bravo concealment. Bravo concealment is less expensive but the exact same product. Here is an my raven concealment for M&P 9/40 with TLR and the SD40 VE fits like a glove. they are also available in standard non light bearing style.

Another good choice is the Galco double time as the name suggests it can be used IWB or OWB. I have not had an issue with either one of them.

As a side note the Raven concealment holster can also be used OWB or IWB

Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tips OKFC05! I need practice with my backup/nitestand gun the SD9VE. I plan to retake the class with an H&K VP9.

Hello.

I purchased a Front Line IWB kydex holster for my S&W model 439, and I am extremely happy with it. Check them out. I purchased from styer77aug on eBay, and he was extremely helpful, and the price was very reasonable. You can contact him directly with the same name, via Hotmail.

That is what I use,, A great OWB holster

I have a SafariLand for my SD. Comfortable and secure. I have been using SafariLand for various handguns for 35 years +. IMHO you can't get any better. It was my off duty and sometimes on duty. There were times I carried a M-19 2 1/2" in one of their holsters for 8-12 hours without discomfort. Also I'm getting old and partial to leather. Like a good Bailey or Stetson, conforms to your body and gets more comfortable over time. Plastic doesn't.
