Anyone know if the SD9/40VE and the SW9/40VE Slide-end cover-plates are the same? I'm looking for a laser etched End Plate for my SW40VE and all I can find are the ends for the SD--/--VE. They look the same, But ?!?!

There are a variety of etched designs on the market, possibly all supplied by one company-

They are also listed on Amazon and NDZ Performance.

I had thought they were plastic but the websites say they are aluminum.

Wether or not they are the same, I couldn't tell. I have a SD9VE, and just replaced mine with a 'Merican flag. The stock one was plastic, the replacement one was what seemed to be aluminum.

I found those etched/patterned ones in 3 places and all of them say aluminum.

I then sent a message to NDZ precision and they said they are aluminum.

I also asked NDZ if they were more than flat plates and they replied that they were identical in shape to the molded plastic originals except at the skirt area.

Surprising that they can make such an intricate shape in metal for such a low price.

I was really surprised. When I took the stock one off, and saw that there were silver pieces on the sides (which made it an absolute *** to take off) I didn't think there was anyway it would fit properly.

It did, I am amazed, and happy!

I've never had mine off since I am not changing the striker springs, etc., but the Apex video shows it as a simple process- sliding a plastic sleeve in the striker assembly forward and the cover almost falls out.

About those "silver pieces"- Are you referring to the stock SD cover?

Yeah. They look like tension bars. It took a hell of a lot of prying, with the only 2 things I had.....a screwdriver, and a butter knife. (Don't tell my wife about the butter knife, she'll kill me.)

If I remember tomorrow after work, I'll take a picture of the stock piece, as I still have it floating around here somewhere.

1. Did you follow the Apex Video?

2. If just floating around, I'll take it. I want to cut the skirt off to make an observation/service tool. I would, in trade, promise to not tell your wife about the butter knife.

Wasn't aware of the apex video until after I was done. Story of my life.

Thank you ou1954. I checked out the link to The Lasers Edge site. I spoke to a nice lady there that informed me that the end-plate from a SD/VE will indeed fit the SW/VE slide. So Thanks again for the hot tip.

I would be interested in seeing what they look like in aluminum. The pictures only show the etching.

Be sure to check Amazon, NDZ, and eBay as well as the laser place. There are some lower prices on them. It surprised me at how they can make a relatively complex shape for those prices.

It may be that NDZ is linked to Amazon. Don't recall how I got there but I did reach them by email.

One more thought . . . Surely all the basic parts are made by one company.

Yes. They are identicle. I have a SD40VE and a SW9VE and have swapped them to see if they fit and they match perfectly. If you go directly to the NDZ site you will find the backplates are cheaper and with more etching options than you will find on other sellers sites. Enjoy!
