New SD9VE. Like it!!
Well, I went ahead and picked up a new SD9EV yesterday afternoon. I figured with the $25 rebate, what the heck. Only had a moment to swing into the range late yesterday and put just 20 rounds of Win White box 115 gr thru it. The trigger is of course not as good as my M&P's with the Apex Duty kit, but by golly the trigger isn't bad. Out of the box I was able to put all 20 rounds into a nice 4.5-5 inch group at 12 yards. I have absolutely no doubt that with a little more trigger time, that I can improve on that. I am definitely pleased with this gun. It will become my new truck gun, and my old Hi Point C-9 will be relegated to my plow truck.

Congrats! They are definitely good bang-for-the-buck guns.

I bought a SD9VE last month to go with my Shield 9 and I like it a lot as well, I put the spring kit in and it's just under 6 lbs, also added the Talon grip tape and man for low price gun it sure feels and shoots great!

I get mine this week. I am picking it up. Academy has it for $299. I already ordered the apex spring kit. Any thoughts on the Stainless steel guide rod from Galloway precision?

No mods necessary and forget the SS guide rod completely.
Enjoy your new gun.

I am all for the APEX spring kit. But, keep the factory polymer guide rod installed.
If you want a FREE spare factory guide rod call S&W and ask for one. They will ask you a few Q?'s about your model, serial #, etc. It's always good to keep a spare. You never know.............

I'm considering getting a SD9VE and have tried the trigger on one in a LGS- after asking of course. It's basically the same as my DA S&W revolvers. Perfectly functional and not too heavy. No, it's not a tuned 1911 trigger, but for a defense weapon I'd prefer it as it is.

Yep, my first handgun was a pre-10 .38 spl. Always shot D/A, maybe that's why I like the SD9VE trigger so much.

OP here. I will very likely leave the trigger stock. It truly is pretty decent or at the very least manageable. I honestly won't be shooting this gun that much. As stated, it is my truck gun. When I am doing activities where I can legally carry, I have my M&P's for that.

SD9ve/SD40ve, fine gun. Plenty of Bang for the Buck! Ergonomics are excellent and after 2,500 rds. absolutely no issues with mine. Trigger is still a long, hard pull, but smooth as ever! S&W have a winner with this handgun!

Definitely great bang for your $$ got mine 3 weeks ago put about 350 rounds through it with no issues at all, I did install the apex trigger and spring kit bringing it to around 6lbs, Aldo slapped talon grips on yesterday kept the factory guide rod of course. The only other mod I can see myself doing is done either night or fiber optic sights down the road, also picked up an IWB as I will carry it alternating between it and my M&P9c and Bodyguard 380

I put one in my SD9VE, and I thought it was a waste of money. I really didn't notice any shooting difference.
The Apex trigger, on the other hand, much improved the gun IMO.

Hopefully tomorrow morning I can get a few more rounds thru this new gun. I'll run a few Win 124 NATO rounds and probably a mag or 2 of my home rolled SD rounds. I drifted the rear sight just a tad, we'll see if that brings me to center POA vs POI. I headed to the range this morning before going to work a little late...no dice. I had forgotten that Cowboy action shooting was this morning, and there is a CCW class qualification this afternoon.

I shoot mostly 124 gr. JHP in my 9mm's. I seem to be able to maintain a better target group than w/other weight and types of rds.

Took a chance and found an open bay at the range just awhile ago rather than wait until tomorrow. I ran 3 mags (48 rounds) thru it this time. 2 mags of Win 124 NATO, and 1 mag of my 124gr Nosler Sporting JHP's over 4.2 gr TiteGroup. This is at 12 yards 2 handed unsupported. The outside shots were my double taps. This thing ran perfect and by golly, I certainly think this will do the job if I do mine.

Thanks! Yesterday was just apparently my day. I don't normally shoot quite that well . I will say though, the trigger is actually quite good. I'm guessing arounf 6.5 lbs. Yes it has a fairly long take up, but it breaks fairly cleanly and quite predictable. For me anyways, it proves that the gun is inherently accurate for SD distances. The rest will be up to me.

I'm glad you are happy with it as am I.
A little back story. Four years ago I added one(on sale)to my safe that already housed a 1911, a 4506, a 6906, a Bersa Thunder and 2 LCP's.
All the above function wonderfully but the SD has earned permanent status as my nightstand gun. Light, high cap, uber reliable and replaceable.
I left it stock as it works the way it was designed to, the trigger took little time to acclimate to, I prefer a longer trigger for added safety and for close up work I use neither sights, lights or lasers.
Again, I am happy for you.

My SD9ve also serves as my nightstand gun. I think the trigger on this gun is fine for what it is made for. It's not a race gun. I think this is truly one of the best "bang for the buck" guns made.

1500 rounds and 100% all factory parts still installed. Only did a little polishing on the trigger bar and sear(?) At the 1000 round mark. Had the best group out of my shooting squad at a class I took in November.

My SD9VE was my first gun, and looking back I may have sprung for an M&P, but at least I've had the chance to really make it my own as I like my guns being a little different. It also allowed me to learn amateur gunsmithing, and that some things are better left to someone with the proper tools. One of such things being the installation of a fiber optic front sight.

I agree with all except the comment on sights. I think the average owner can change sights on a SD-9/40 pistol -- with a little preparation.
I've been down the road on replacing sights on SD's and M&Ps.
You need the right tools, and it is important to remember that the sights go out to the right (towards the ejection port) and come in from the right. The dovetails are tapered!
I've removed sights with a wooden block and a hammer, holding the slide in a vise -- but much prefer a Sight Pusher. Some people use a punch, but that can mar or damage the sights = don't do it!
I've owned the Sight Pusher from MGW -- cost is around $125 -- and it is well-worth it. I think it pays for itself after you do the third sight; and then, as a bonus, you can always sell the Sight Pusher on eBay for $80-90 after you are done.
My SD currently has a Warren Tactical rear sight, and I think it is great. If I had a SD9VE with the plastic sight, I'd probably install a M&P style metal rear sight, or another Warren Tactical sight. Fiber optics sights, night sights, Big Dot sights, etc., are all viable options.

Wow, wish the one I as of now have sent back for the 2nd time just recently would have shot that great. I guess out of the millions of good SD9VE pistols I got the only *** one.

I just get more upset when I read about everyone else that purchase or has had a SD9VE & they haven'e had a single issue. Of course this just proves how much bad luck I really have, get the only lemon out of millions of these produced. This will be the 2nd time sent back to S&W & if it still doesn't shoot like all the others I am selling it or using it for AK target practice.

Sure hope that they get yours going right. I am waiting on my 2nd one ordered from PSA. Hopefully it is close to how my first one performs.

If you need some extra 16rd mags, check out Grice's gunshop. They have them for $9.99 (+ shipping) through April 29th. I went there to order a few Shield 9mm mags (at $9.99 each - now sold out) and walked away with several of these SD9 magazines too - and I don't even own one.

I just was informed by S&W looks like it's going to be 6-8 weeks before I see my SD9VE back, heck by then I could just buy a new one instead, then when I get the old one back sell it. I am sure the newer on would function better. Also I have been looking but do they make one in all black, I thought they did. I am not fond of shiny guns.
