SW9ve sigma

Ok folks, I need a general opinion here about the overall safety of the Sw9ve sigma. I happen to like S&W guns in general and the sw9ve was affordable, seems to be reliable and the hard trigger pull is good for the 1 in 1 million chance my chldren actually manage to find the gun cabinet key, the gun lock key, the clips, were able to load and pull the side back without myself or my wife noticing...
Anyway, I do have one very big note of concern which is the lack of a safety switch since this is a concealed weapon. I must admit that once the wife threw a fit, I did wonder how safe it actually is to carry or have in general.
I am pretty careful with guns, have had military and general training, I follow the generally accepted safety standards without going overkill. If I did by chance have an accident I would more than likely kill my floor rather than myself, est..,
I have read reports saying essentially the two piece trigger and being hard pull are the safety and that is fine, but is that really safe?

Just like a double-action revolver with no safety, the Sigma is safe to carry in a holster, provided that you don't do anything stupid. No gun is safe to be left where children are capable of getting it.

There've been a lot of threads on this gun here: a search might turn up some in which you might be interested.

You will need to decide for yourself whether or not carrying the SW9VE is safe. It is for me. I started out the same as you being concerned that the weapon might inadvertently fire. So much so, that the first several times I carried it, I did so without a round in the chamber.

After a time, I became comfortable that the holsters I was using made the trigger completely inaccessable and, with fear and trepidation, I began wearing the weapon around the house with a round in the chamber.

I have now convinced myself that with the weapon holstered, I'm not going to shoot myself and routinely carry ready to fire.

btw, you will enjoy your your SW9VE.

Thanks for the feed back and the warm welcome. I mainly want to reassure my wife and father in law the gun is safe to carry. So more than my opinion on the topic helps.lol.. So far I love the sw9ve, of course I am still trying to figure out what to do with the extra clips, I have 4 total, 2 came with the gun and 2 came with the rebate. I was going to carry them all, but I don't want to look like rambo trying to go to war with all those clips hanging off my belt.. ha ha.. Not to mention having a clip on your side kinda defeats the point of being concealed.. lol

The Sigma does have built in safety features but the most important safety is between the ears of the user..The gun will not go bang by itself,you must pull the trigger..Some think that the trigger is just too heavy but it will get better with use,live fire and dry fire helps a bunch..One must remember that it is not a target pistol but will shoot with the best when you have mastered the trigger..
Carry it,shoot it and it only gets better with use...

It is completely safe as long as you keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot it. Get a good holster, a double mag holder, and dress accordingly, you won't have any problem concealing it.

One thing to remember on gun forums, clips are metal strips that hold rounds to be feed into internal magazines, what you have are magazines not clips. Don't mean to anal about it but, if I don't say it someone will.

Tell your wife that the Sigma was marketed to Police agencies, and that the gun will not fire unless you pull the trigger. If that doesn't work, get a new wife.

Child gun safety is a topic that has a lot of variables. If your children are mature, you can show them an unloaded gun in order to (at least partially) satisfy their curiousity. You can also get the NRA "Eddie Eagle" gun safety video. If you want to discourage their interest, let them help you clean your dirty gun after a range session.

If you are using both a gun lock AND a gun cabinet, that's a pretty safe plan as far as your kids are concerned. Exercise control over the keys. If that is a potential problem, go with a gun cabinet/safe with a combination lock, and don't let your kids ever see you open it. Don't let your wife know the combo, either. Only YOU. That way, there is NO chance anyone can open the safe (like to store jewelery or paperwork, and then forgetting to re-lock the safe........)

I carry my Sigma 40 every day and have no concern that it will fire itself while secure in my holster. Also welcome to the forum. Carry it practice and it will start to feel like its part of you. I get up in the morning get dressed grab the keys, cell phone, wallet, Sigma, etc...and head out the door.

Tell your wife and FIL that the safety system is so close of a copy of the GLOCK that S&W got sued over it ! Law enforcement is known to carry Glocks for their safety features among other reasons. I carry mine 24/7 with a round in the chamber and have no worries. If you don't pull the trigger it won't go boom.
