Unhappy Chipped extractor on 5946, need help...

I was giving a good bath to my "new to me" 5946 and I just noticed that the extractor face is chipped.
The proper course of action would be, I guess, to send it back to S&W but I need the gun to qualify next week so that ain't happenin'...
So what do I do now? It functions fine, can I keep on shooting it this way without messsing something else up? Should I try to smooth out the fracture's edge to relieve stress points?
Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm a revolver guy and I don't know anything about these new high tech semi autos.

The extractors are a fitted part, so yes your best bet is to call S&W and make arrangements to have it sent in for repair. If it is working fine right now I would go ahead and qualify with it and send it in afterwards. Ask them to give it a good checking over while they have it for any other possible problems.

You say you need it to qualify with. That's telling me your planning to use as a duty weapon. If that is the case I would send it in right away and have Smith go over it. Barring that let the range officer know when you go in and send it in after you qualify. What ever you do do not carry it as a duty weapon till after you have it checked out.

Thanks for your concern and sorry, I did not mean to mislead you. This is just the qualification for the BLET program. I do not have to rely on the gun for anything than punching paper right now...
Once it comes back form S&W and if I do get with a dept that does not issue me a gun, I may carry it. But I will go through a few hundred rounds of duty ammo before I trust it.

Thanks for the help.
