Default Model 41 variations

There was a version that had an extendable front sight. A 5.5 inch barrel as I recall but the front sight could be pulled out to almost twice that length. Anyone seen one lately and if so what did it sell for? Anyone know when these were made?

And wasn't there a version in 22 short?

Yes to both questions, but I haven't seen one of either sell in a looooong time.

I'm sure a few others will pipe up soon hopefully with recent sales info. The .22 short I believe could be bought as a conversion unit, and included a barrel& slide (whole top end). Weren't too many made and pretty pricey as I recall.

You learn something every day on this forum.
I have never seen a sight that would slide in and out.
I have seen extended sights that are stationary but
not sliding. Don

Default EFS Model 41

The model 41 with the extendable front sight was released in 1965, it gave the sight radius of the 7 3/8 barrel, along with the balance of the
5 1/2 heavy barrel which was released in 1963.
To my knowledge a 5 1/2 with EFS and 22 short does not exist.
They did have all barrel lengths in 22 short, the 5 inch sport barrel is the most rare, followed by the 5 1/2 in 22 short.
I have an article on the model 41-46 if you e-mail me I will gladly share it with you.

my favorite old 41 is the EFS version. if i can manage a camera and figure out how to post the picture i'll do so. and no they did not make it in a short version. I used a hi standard for rapid fire in short, never liked it nearly as well as the 41

Extendable sights were all the rage in 1911s about the same time (mid-60s) either Bo-Mar made a rib with one or someone milled them in. I used to see them on 1911s and 41s at matches.
My job got so hectic that I missed many years of matches. Since you don’t see them anymore I suspect that the rules have changed and they are no longer allowed.

That rear sight is really interesting. I owned several of the early 41's years ago but I do not remember that nice a rear sight. Any details on it would be much appreciated.

That is the standard rear sight used on the early 5.5 inch model 41 barrels and the model 52's one of the best bullseye sights out there. Sometime after they went to the 3 letter serial numbers they dropped that sight from the model 41's. I have 2 model 52-1's and 2 model 41 EFS pistols all use that rear sight.
