S&W Model 41 Barrels
Good Evening....I have an "A" series model 41 and am looking to add some barrels such as a 5 1/2" Heavy or ????. I have owned the pistol since the mid 80's and enjoy shooting it very much. What is there available in aftermarket barrels and are they any better or worse than the S&W factory made barrels? It has a 7" on it now and many years ago I bought a 5" Field barrel at a gun show in Columbus, Ohio. It is new and has not been fired yet. Will S&W sell barrels to retail customers or will they only do business with dealers? What is a good source to buy barrels at resonable prices? Any information will be welcomed. Thanks much for your time. Richard Ramsey, North Ridgeville, Ohio

I got a 5.5" heavy barrel from Gil Hebbard Guns inc. Very courteous & competent folks. You will have to call them to see if they have any for sale still. They were reasonably priced too.
I would try the field barrel to see if you like the shorted barrel. It's not doing you much good sitting in the safe.
I would like to get a field barrel for my 41 so the wife could shoot it easier.

Aftermarket M41 Barrels
I know of two sources for aftermarket barrels for the M41. In general the aftermarket barrels will cost more than S&W barrels.
I have a barrel from each maker. IMO these barrels are more accurate than the factory run of S&W barrels. This is but my opinion, others may disagree. I have heard antidotes about accuracy problems with them, but have never seen or heard anything first hand.
My aftermarket barrels are accurate far beyond my capability. The price for aftermarket barrels in my opinion reflects tighter QC and the fact that the barrels are test fired for accuracy.

Clark Barrel
Brownell's sells a 5-1/2" Clark barrel that will accept Weaver style rings for a scope or a dot sight that fits a Weaver base. My Clark barrel wears a C-More dot sight and is far more accurate than I am. The barrel will shoot any brand of ammo that will cycle the slide.

mdl 41 bbl
I have an early A gun with the hvy 51/2"bbl,A few years ago I bought one of the current 7 1/2 bbls drilled for optics. The fellow that sold it to me bought it from the S&W store while on a tour of the factory. This bbl fit perfectly and is exceptionally accurate. As far as I know you can still order one from S&W by phone.

If you're not in a hurry, watch Midway for sales. I picked up a extra barrel for them last year for around $175 after discounts. Even their regular "discounted" price is pretty good.
Good Luck...

I have a later vintage 7" that's factory drilled and tapped that I would sell if anyone needs it.

Mod. 41 barrel
Not wishing to hijack the thread but I bought a 5" barrel last Friday for $125.00 and wondered if that would be considered a good price? It looks new but was not in any box or wrapped, just a loose M-41 barrel. Thanks for allowing me to intrude. I haven't tried it to see if it will fit without having to be fitted.
