I know Mec-Gar generally makes great mags, but anyone have any negative experience with the 15 or 17 round Mec-gar mags for the 5903?

Nope. I have a few Mec-Gar 59 series magazines and they are every bit as good as the factory originals. In fact, if used factory magazines were not so cheap and available I'd probably have more Mec-Gars.

My dealer uses those mags with his SW 9mm, I am not sure which model - but it is full size. I believe these folks now make the SW magazines..
I have never tried, but there isn't any reason they wouldn't. 15 rd for $19.99, and 17 rd flush fit for $23.99. Smith & Wesson Mags $7.99 flat shipping and a few freebies this weekend. <center>WEEKEND SPECIALS</center>

Mec-Gar mags ARE every bit as well made and reliable as factory magazines.
I have used Mec-Gar magazines in my Model 59, My Model 659, and now in my Model 5906.
I also also used Mec-Gar magazines in a 9mm Sig, a 45ACP Sig, Beretta 92, and a FN Hi-Power.
I've never had any problems of any kind with a Mec-Gar magazine.
The spring in one of my 17 round S&W Mec-Gar did get a bit weak, after many years of use at the range. Meg-Gar sent me a new spring, at no charge, when I called them up to ask about buying a replacement spring.
They have a lifetime warranty, and they even warranty the spring.
You can't ask for much more than that.

17 rnd doesn't fit if You have a mag well.
Most likely that MG makes the tubes for S&W org mags but the internal parts are different (follower, butt plate, spring). All parts are interchangeable between S&W and MG (15rnd).
ALL of my Mec-Gar follwers have broken legs. Bad experience from their, or rather lack of, customer service.
Can't find any spare parts for them. Don't get any replies from the italian nor US e-mails (last I tried was ~2 weeks ago).
Luckily S&W parts fit and are easy to find so all in all a good mag.
