Can any of you guys give me the readers digest of the NYPD's problems with the Kahr? Only heard rumors about reliability issues. I was think about picking up the PM9 for off-duty. Gotta be pretty bad if they pulled the Kahr's and not the Glocks with all the phase 3 malfunctions.

This just came up on Lightfighter the other day. Go to GlockTalk, search under the Kahr section for "NYPD", there's tons to read on it. Basically high round count started causing problems. NYPD stipulated a 12lb. trigger pull but the Kahrs kept smoothing out with use, like they all do, to under spec weight pulls. They are still grandfathered for the guys that had them, but no more for new hires like the J frames.

It was a baton created for political correctness. Just so when you go to court someone can say "it's not just used to hit people, you can do all this other stuff with it." Meanwhile your average cop will never be able to execute any of the techniques taught. Keep it simple, a baton is used for striking like it ot not, don't try and re-invent the wheel!
Was glad to get rid of it for the ASP!

I went through PR-24 training while attending the corrections department academy. You would have to practice monthly to keep fresh - something nobody did.

He was the CO of the 103 when I was in Academy Field Training in '97. He was alledged to have been shipped out to Queens after a CPP incident.
There were urinal stickers of him all over the locker room. We were told that TARU, had set up the house with all kinds of surveilance.

Are there restrictions on retired NYPD officers weapon choice when they qualify for the national retired officer permit ? Thats assuming their dept allows them to get the permit. I help a friend who is a retired police officer run the range for qualification and we use the qualification test for active officers from his former dept. There are two courses of fire . One for full size handguns and one for back up guns which so far have been mostly snub nose revolvers.

Please excuse the resurection of an old post, I was about to give an update on the M&P, but first...
NYPD has no say whether a retiree qualifies under LEOSA, once they retire with their retired photo ID. Its then up to the retiree to get qualified. The recent amendment to LEOSA makes it easier for retiees in NY and several other states to qualify.
LEOSA states "type" (revolver or semi-auto) of weapon, so you may have to run the course with both if one desires to carry a revolver or pistol. Those qualifing at Rockland County can shoot either or both and the LEOSA ID will reflect same.
Bottomline, your former ageny has no say and cannot restrict you to,say, a service firearm. As long as it isn't banned by the Fed's its good to go...if you can conceal it :-).

As of Feburary no change on M&P approval, but it appears we have a new contender or 2 in the wings. Two mfgr's are possibly offering pistols for testing. Both have supplied pistols in the past...

NYPD Off-Duty Question
Obviously the restrictions put on law officers and what they can carry and when, is just a step in getting them ready to fall in step with the rest of the zombies on the street, when they're no longer part of the hierarchy (government). What a pathetics place to have to live! Glad I escaped from the northeast 25 years ago.
My hats off to all of you trying to keep the criminals of the street. You need to get your fellow citizens to vote out the liberal loonies with their sickening political correctness trash.
It's kinda like the inmates are running the asylum.
