?952?
Ok I have been eyeing a model 952 that is in a local shop. Any and all info would be great. Are they worth it. This model is at 1650.00 LNIB but used.
Thanks

Do not ever handle one, rack the slide or dry/live fire one !!! If you do it will be yours forever.....What a gun. A dear friend of mine in Idaho Falls Idaho has a stainless steel 952 that is without a question the most accurate 9mm I have ever used and that was with CCI Blazer ammo of all things. They are so smooth and the trigger is incredibly crisp and consistent. Quite the equal to his older 52 Smith in all regards. It is not finicky about what you feed it either. Will own one of my own someday soon...

growr, (randy)
That is what I was curious of Thanks for the Info. Dealer Is willing to do a real reasonable Layaway for it. With economy the way it is they are willing to deal a little and I may just work something out to own it
Thanks

You may want to look at Gunbrokers new prices on them before you pay that for one....
Edited....
I just looked. You can get one for much less, usually in the 1200$ range. Don't seem to be any listed right now.

My 952 is the most accurate handgun I have ever fired. Highly recommended! See if you can get a better price on that one.

IIRC, Buds Gunshop sells that gun new shipped for about that very amount, unless the one you saw has the 6" barrel. My wife bought one from buds about 3 months ago, and it shoots circles around my other PC guns in the accuracy department. I wish it held 10 rounds in the mags though to be more competitive in the Limited 10 division in USPSA.

I purchased my 952-2 in the summer of 2006, NIB for $1500.00 special order. Originally my thinking was to get a performance center, top of the line, custom built, S&W 9mm auto. I had competition shooting in mind as well. Well, never being able to handle this gun I was a little hesitate. No touchy feely and at $1500.00. When it arrived I discovered it to be a strange bird. I wasn't totally in love with the grip (for me), but when I jacked the slide, holy ****. It was tight, smooth, easy and manufactured to tight tolerances. A trip to the range proved (mine) it to be finicky with ammo. Mine shots pretty accurate. It wasn't, OMG nothing shoots better than this gun, but with PMC Bronze factory ammo it did well. Removing the slide safety takes some getting use to as well. Regarding my competition shooting with the 952 gun wish, the nine round mag and poor accessory selections at that time halted that idea. I still own the gun and will not sell it because it is a quality built firearm. But, I do wonder had I been able to handle it at a shop, I not totally convinced I would have bought it. I probably would have also looked at other custom built 9's, like the SigSauer X5 for a comparison.

They have the 6" model in stock right now for $2055. S&W 952-2 9mm 6" 9RD Stainless Perf Center for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $2,055.00
That's up about $400 from the last time they were in stock and selling for $1641. S&W 952-2 9mm 6" 9RD MT Perf Center for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $1,641.00
So for the 5" model, which last sold for $1149 at Buds( S&W 952, 9mm for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $1,149.00) I'd say $1650 isn't that unreasonable. Granted, the Buds one is new and includes free shipping and no sales tax to pay. But if you can talk the shop down to $1400 or so, with the addition of a reasonable layaway, you should strongly consider getting it if you've decided on acquiring a 952. There's no telling the next time Buds will have them in stock, and the price may have increased more than $400 by that point.
But while the 952s are fantastic guns, there are other, potentially better, choices for 9mm target pistols in the same price range. Unless you're dead-set on getting a S&W, as JamesArthur60 just pointed out the Sig P226 X-5 is a strong contender, along with the old Sig P210 (like the 952, it's a single stack 9mm, single action target pistol). The X-5 has the benefit of using readily available (and double stack) P226 magazines, and can fit in many 226 holsters.
You should also keep an eye out for the S&W Super 9 or PPC 9, both of which are target/competition versions of the 5906, so holster and magazine acquisition would again be easier than the 952. S&W also used to offer a Performance Center "Target Champion" 5906. The enhanced capacity of the double stack magazines used in the 5906 variants or the X-5 will serve you better in most competitions than the limited capacity of the single stack 952 or P210.

I have a SS 952, it is a very nice firearm and I would buy another in a heartbeat.
There are some on GB to price check. I happened to find a very lightly used one in 5" for $1150, $1250 with shipping and DROS. 6" guns are slightly more.
Much like the Model 52 in looks, feel, fit/finish and performance.
They are out there and well worth the time and effort finding.
Mine is not finnicky at all and shoots low-recoil reloads with ease without changing the recoil spring.

I have a 952-1 blue and a 952-2 Long slide/heavy slide (S&W discontinued the heavy slide about 2 years ago) and they are super great guns. The 952 comes as close in fit, finish and function to my Sig P-210's as any gun I have ever handled. I plan on keeping mine for a long time. Get one You will love it.

The only answer is to get a 952 and have your High Power worked over. Better yet get a 952 and another High power.
