220ST vs 1911
I have as my .45 a 220ST and I can barlely get my hand around it. Is there a signifigant difference in grip size between the sig and the 1911. And before someone asks, the Sig does have the short trigger.

Yes, The typical 1911 has smaller grips than the P220. There are size gradations in SIG grips, the thickest are the SIG Wood Grips, next I think are the Hogue wood, then the Hogue rubber. Finally you can get SIG plastic and thin plastic for most models.
The SIG P220 SSE that I have comes with SIG wood, (big!) very much like the S&W 3rd gen 4566 Hogue Rubber in size.

Hi CajunLawyer,
Side by side, it appears the distance to the trigger is shorter on my 1911 vs my Sig P220 Stainless.
I have medium size hands with no issues reaching the triggers on both pistols.

Hi Kanewpadle,
My SIG P220 Stainless in the above photo does not have a short trigger.
But CajunLawyer mentioned in his initial post that he has a short trigger
on his Sig P220ST.

Just put your hand around a 1911. The difference is amazing and not fully appreciated by comparison of deminsions. I have always wanted a 220, but could never get past that grip. It feels waaay bigger than my 1911's. On my 1911s I replace the standard grips with slim grips and bushings. Subjectively, this may be the best feel of any auto I own.

You can get smaller grips, in my experience the smaller grips make a significant difference. I don’t have a problem with the SIG P220 supplied wood grips, but a friend of mine did, he is quite happy with the Hogue wood.
I know people with small hands who have switched to the factory slim plastic and are happy.
I also have a P239 SAS in .40, DAO, came with SIG wood, very long reach to the DAO trigger, I am using the Hogue wood, which has made this supposedly compact pistol much more shootable at least for me.

A single stack 1911 has the easiest grip i have ever, well, gripped of all the pistols i have ever shot in a full sized caliber.
IMO the only gun that would be better is a single stack 9mm that seem to be few and far between.
